I notice most jobs dont care about if you have kid obligations

but employers should make their employees happy by accommodating parents any way needed without any risk of losing the job

Considering where I live and how dumb the average parent is when it comes to popping one out every year after smoking and drinkingno.

Bringing a child into the world should take the same amount of effort as it would to adopt one.

They will just find other reasons to get rid of you or not hire you.

Well, if they aren't then the Family and Maternity Leave Act of 1993 is certainly wasting everyone's time.

Last job I worked we where point blank lack of someone to watch your child was not an excuse. Hell I was told my car being broke down was not an excuse and I found that funny cause they sure as hell didn't offer to come pick me up vs a minimum job I had a long time ago would do that lol.

Don't they though? My former coworker was constantly taking off, late, leaving early because of something kid related. No one seemed to care.

May have just been the boss's discretion and nothing to do with policy or laws

It abso-fucking-lutely needs to be expanded, I'm just pointing out that the law's been around for thirty years.

I will sayvmy last job and my current job is considered essential and I don't mean by covid era terminology like legit can not close down and has to be manned 24/7 365. We had people who had to stay on the job for 3 days straight cause nobody could make it in due to a hurricane. They would even let dude who lived 2 minutes down the road go home to take a shower.

I work at home and I'm allowed to take an hour break in the morning to drive my kid to school and an hour break in the afternoon to pick them up. Yes, I have to start working at 4am, but the flexibility is crucial for us.

I'm a contractor, so I have a timesheet, even though I'm salaried. My company has to be able bill my hours to the right projects.

I personally don't think I could work from home. Too many distractions. I'd end up getting everything done at the last minute

And having done shit like that in school (homework projects etc) I know I can but it's stressing

Id be able to work from home if I didnt have kids. They are way too distracting for me to concentrate and multi task with them around along with having to work.

For me it would be wanting to play video games and what not.

Oddly I was told I could play hand held games at this job yet I somehow just post all night here. It's easier to set my phone down when I need to actually do some work.

morally and pragmatically? Yes. Children are valuable - future workers, leaders, resources. Helping in their care reduces the cognitive load on people currently in your workforce and ensures potential future workforce.

In terms of profit? Hell no kids cost money that could otherwise go into making the line go up. Shareholders don't like that.

If you are an employer that will pay for hiring the best, then you will provide benefits that help parents/caregivers (and other benefits that are good for other groups). But if there's no business advantage, then of course you won't, unless you have to.

Honestly? No.

Having kids is typically your choice. Its not fair to be like I know I was hired for this job with these requirements, but lol guess what? I decided to have kids so now I need to change everything

Or if youre trying to have kids / plan on having kids, you need to be upfront about that when you get hired so the appropriate accommodations can be made.
