Could any major bridge have withstood that collision you think?

There's probably not gonna be a bridge for a long long time if ever.

oh did not see how large that boat was, it was like larger than the largest cruise ships?, was it extremely tall for a ship too? How fast was the ship going at the time of impact?

It's bigger than an oasis-class ship, yes (those are like four times as heavy, but I assume that's because the specification doesn't include cargo weight). Those are -freaking huge- for ships. The best comparison I can think of is think of like 4, 5 Titanics stacked into a brick.

per the reporting it was going about 8 knots (10 miles per hour), so not all that -fast-, but you're talking about a 100k-ton-plus-cargo container ship. It doesn't have to be going fast to deal damage

Im interested to see what some of the short term supply chain impact is here. I have heard that hazardous materials cannot be moved through the tunnel, so once they get the bridge/cargo ship cleaned up enough to let traffic go through again, theyll still have the issue of getting hazmat out of MD. And if they move to the next most likely port, Norfolk, theyll have the same issue of the best shipping route being through a tunnel as well as some manpower concerns.
