The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing. Woof, worst votals thus far for Psychic-types, but I feel like we've had quite a few blowouts in a row at this point, with one generation really taking a commanding lead and not giving anything else a chance to catch up. Our winner was Gen III, but our second place was Gen II, which is still on the cusp of not making it through as a wild card. Still three types left to cover however, so we'll see how things turn out. For today's contest, Rock is a rough one for me personally. When I was putting together the lists, this was...not great. Maybe I'm alone in this opinion, but we'll see how people feel about the typing when all is said and done. Given Gen VI's limited roster, I have folder Mega Evolutions into their list, as those were, effectively, some of the new Pokemon created in lieu of brand new designs for Gen VI. I'll keep the same concept for later typings as well. Note: I will not be considering things like Dialga/Palkia's form changes in Gen VIII, as those are still technically the same in the way Giratina's form change was back in Gen IV. Gen VII - Lycanroc is good, which is enough to beat out Gen 4, but that's the only compliment I can give this group. I don't like the Alolan Geodude line, Minior is meh, and Stakataka and Nihilego suck. Gen IX - Not a terrible lineup, but no real favorites for me. Gen V - I like the Crustle line, but the rest of the lineup is pretty forgettable. Gen VI - Tyrantrum rules and Aurorus is pretty good, but the Barbaracle line, Carbink, and Diancie drag it down a lot. Mega Aerodactyl sucks too. Gen VIII - Coalossal is fantastic, Arcanine is really good, and Kleavor is solid. Avalugg and Stonjourner suck. Gen I - Kabutops and Golem are great, don't care much for the rest but nothing terrible here. Gen II - Tyranitar is awesome, Sudowoodo is funny, and the rest are a least decent. Magcargo would be decent if not for that horrendous typing. Yeah, that leads me to why Rock-types are usually awful: Their weakness profile is the most crippling of any. Water, Grass, Ground, Fighting, AND Steel is particularly terrible. There's a reason a majority of these Pokemon have at least one 4x weakness. Rock/Ground to Water AND Grass, Rock/Water to Grass, Fire/Rock to Water AND Ground, Rock/Dark to Fighting, Rock/Steel to Fighting AND Ground, Rock/Electric to Ground, Rock/Ice to Fighting AND Steel... Yeah, looking at that, there's a reason Rock is among my least favorite types. They really could've done without the weakness to Ground. I never played Sword, only Shield, but the idea of there being a Rock-type gym so late in the game is not a good one. I've heard people say that Gordie is among the weakest gym leaders they've ever faced; Melony is considerably better, since I at least had a halfway decent fight with her. They really could've done without the weakness to Ground. I never played Sword, only Shield, but the idea of there being a Rock-type gym so late in the game is not a good one. I've heard people say that Gordie is among the weakest gym leaders they've ever faced; Melony is considerably better, since I at least had a halfway decent fight with her.I guess I'll just vote for the gen where I like the designs the best. </quote> ... You've got cute ass Dwebble line two great fossil lines, Gigalith line is unique and cool looking especially in shiny palette, and while Terra is my least favorite of the musketeers they're one of my favorite Legendary groupings outside of Beasts and Birds. The Alolan Geodude line has unique typing and looks, Lycanroc is awesome, Nihilego is delightfully creepy for sharing a silhouette with Lilly.
