Each vendor has one new weapon and thats it. I like exploring for weapons but would be nice to have a variety some times.

and when can I go back to the Grasslands? Im up to Gongaga.

I miss when RPG towns were big events and you were excited to visit all the new shops and see what new gear you could get.

Anytime. You can fast travel to other regions whenever there's no main Story segment.

There's very little in terms of side quests and updates though.

I'm pretty sure they only sell weapons if you miss finding them in the world. Like I know from watching a LP I missed the Rune Sword in the escape from Junon, but the next vendor in Costa Del Sol was selling it.

And you've been able to go back to the Grasslands since...forever? I think you were only temporarily locked out when you went to the Junon region, but you could have traveled back when you made it to Junon. I haven't made it to Gongaga yet, but I think there's a ferry in Costa Del Sol that will take you back if you can get back there.

Yeah they only sell stuff that you miss.

The game actually wants you to do the item crafting for armor. The weapons are hidden behind sidequests and in chests.

The green sidequests are actually pretty good here. They almost always give insight into a party member, rank up their friendship (or romance) meter, and i
give good rewards. Unlike ff16 where you get crafting materials and listen to a guy talk at you about how sad he is.
