I can't remember shit. I just remember thinking both modern dooms had way better lore than was probably necessary for that kind of game

The modern. Dooms are the same continuity as the originals. There is no aliens. Just demons angels and humans.

Doom Eternal story is stupid as shit

To add I felt it was reboot because doom slayer had much more power than when he was called doomguy but then it showed the angels gave him power after he proved himself to them

No they are demons. That's always been dooms thing. Demons. Eternal just added angels into the mix.

Read some of the lore descriptions for enemies and characters

Not really. There are only six known races/factions in Eternal lore. Humans, Argenta, Jekkadians, Wraiths, Demons and Maykrs. This gets a lot more confusing when you take into account that there's some unused dialogue that opens up to more lore, and a lot of alluded to/implied lore that delves into an assumed Quake reboot.

It's fun and interesting but really sloppy and not thought through.

The Argenta/Night Sentinels are what confused me initially, because in Doom 2016 information about them is pretty vague. Or I just wasn't paying attention well enough. I just didn't quite understand how they fit into the whole thing until Eternal.

The Maykrs are a constructed hivemind race whose sole purpose was to discover the secrets of immortality. They were basically super OP artificial intelligence created by a once-benevolent god trying to give his subjects the same powers as him. They took note of how obsessive this god and his subjects were in their pursuits and once they discovered how to achieve immortality they hid their findings from the god and swerved him; sealing his realm away from the rest of the multiverse while becoming the new de-facto "gods".

After that they traveled across the universe contacting civilizations and offering them technology, knowledge and protection in exchange for their praise and worship.

I just seem to remember everything being dealing with religious beings but distorted from how the Bible portrays it

The Ancient Gods added a shitload of lore and the second part made everything confusing as fuck by outing the Maykrs as unreliable narrators. The lore proceeded to get even more confusing as fuck as a lot of stuff in TAG 2 was heavily alluding to a Quake reboot.

I just donr recall any mention of aliens. It's been a hot minute though.

But I definitely know the demons are demons. Different dimension makes sense from a scientific view though cause neither heaven or hell are observable in what we have found so far so them being technically a different dimension wouldn't be farfetched of they where indeed real

Yeah I was under the impression the angels were cosmological entities on our same plane of existence just in a different part of the universe, and that hell is a whole ass different place like dimension or parallel universe or something

I never completed the dlc difficulty spike seemed pretty steep and doom was my go to drunken game that isn't a fighter

Doom eternal was pretty hard and I remember having to turn down the difficulty to whatever they called easy

My mom loved doom 2016 but couldn't get into eternal cuz of the difficulty

The main game isn't that hard once you learn unlike 2016 specific enemies are weak to specific guns or have weak spots. 2016 you could easily use just about any gun and blast away. Some guns where just better than others.

Yeah I actually wasn't super fond of that in eternal iirc

Still loved the game but I remember there just being a lot of unnecessary new mechanics to what is supposed to be mindless fun. Some of the mechanics I liked a lot tho

Giving Doom extensive stories was a mistake. Doom 2016 had the perfect amount, basically just enough for you to go from A to B.

Then eternal its fucking spirits orbs and the devil is you and what the fuck.

I liked Eternal better than 2016 myself. What 2016 had over Eternal was the alternate mode for making custom maps, lot of trash to wade through but some really funny / hilarious and unique content as well.

Worth the money if you're a fan of the gameplay but there's a big difficulty spike. Some of the setpieces are pretty interesting though there's a huge dip in quality with the second game. It was rushed due to COVID and the final climactic level is short as hell and recycles a ton of assets.

This always bothered me. Battle Mode flopped once and instead of trying something new they just "rebooted" it and it flopped again, so they just gave up on it.

Humans believe them to be angels, they're Maykrs. They're also into causing dimensional disruptions so they're hardly benevolent.

Seems like Satan exists, though. So there's a God of Evil but no God of Good (since Doomguy has no fucks to give and simply wants to be left alone).

More like the online was such a miss, the fans said "Why even bother?"

The only thing people didn't like about 2016 multi was 2 gun loadouts. The people want Deathmatch.

Invasion Mode would have been a game changer IMO. It was a cancelled mode that allowed you to randomly spawn into peoples' campaigns as a buffed demon and try to stop them from progressing.
