Whether they're in their office all day texting/playing mobile games, or literally walking circles around the place of business "watching for shoplifters" most of the time, it's a great example of someone who doesn't deserve their job.

Sadly yes. I'll never forget this one boss I had where if things got busy, it was all hands on deck, including hers. She was a grand exception.

I had a boss that didn't even pretend. You could clearly hear the sports on the TV from the hallway... and he had a buffer room in between his office and the hallway in question.

I remember when I worked retail at like 19 being shocked at how much easier the bosses' day seemed then anyone else for how much extra pay they got. They just chilled in the office all day sending emails until there was a customer issue on the floor we couldn't handle ourselves (like authorising a discount)

Never saw him have to try and sell something to a customer or carry heavy stock around. It was a camping, fishing and BBQ store too, so there was a lot of heavy lifting and salesmanship

I left my job cause of this. New senior manager, straight up not in the building for most days of the week.

When I first got a job at a theatre, the GM was awesome. Fri/Sat nights, he would stay up front and tear tickets. If concession got busy, he would make/scoop popcorn. Sold out movie ends, he'd grab a butler and broom and start cleaning. It motivated me to work harder since he didn't think he was too good to work.

Of course, he leaves and we get a shitty GM in return. If he wasn't hiding in his office, he just stood in the lobby and told everybody to work faster when things got busy.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
