Mafia movies downplay that most of these guys are deadbeat lowlife grammar school dropouts so they became career criminals out of necessity, where mafia movies portray it more like a monarchy where the boss is this cool and collected king whos grooming his heir apparent with all these badass Facebook meme quotes. It was a work of fiction that became so popular actual gangs decided they wanted to be "Vito Corleone" too which is why in real life it's so much dumber.
