I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

Yesterday's one-on-one contest saw another strong showing from both entrants as they fought for the final spot in the tournament, but after some early equality between the two generations, Gen IV took a slight lead, and Gen IX just couldn't make up the difference. It's a shame, because Gen IX is genuinely one of the better Ghost rosters, and if I'd just voted it instead of Gen I the first time around, it would've made the tournament.

Anyway, with all ties broken, we have our official best generation per type, plus fourteen runners-up who managed to put on a strong enough showing to earn one of the remaining slots in the overall bracket. Unfortunately, Gen II Psychic, Gen II/III Rock, Gen I/V Grass, and Gen III Ice didn't put on a good enough showing to snag spots for themselves. Thus, here are your top thirty two!

  1. Fire: Gen I (30 Votes, 47.62%)
  2. Bug: Gen V (30 Votes, 44.12%)
  3. Dragon: Gen III (30 Votes, 41.67%)
  4. Poison: Gen I (29 Votes, 50.88%)
  5. Grass: Gen III (28 Votes, 45.90%)
  6. Psychic: Gen III (25 Votes, 45.45%)
  7. Fairy: Gen VII (24 Votes, 39.34%)
  8. Electric: Gen I (24 Votes, 37.50%)
  9. Ice: Gen IV (24 Votes, 36.92%)
  10. Flying: Gen I (21 Votes, 35.00%)
  11. Water: Gen I (21 Votes, 34.43%)
  12. Ground: Gen I (20 Votes, 33.33%)
  13. Dark: Gen II (18 Votes, 26.87%)
  14. Normal: Gen I (17 Votes, 28.81%)
  15. Steel: Gen III (15 Votes, 27.27%)
  16. Rock: Gen I (14, 23.33%)
  17. Fighting: Gen IV (14 Votes, 21.88%)
  18. Ghost: Gen V (13 Votes, 17.81%)
  19. (Dark: Gen IX - 17 Votes, 25.37%)
  20. (Fire: Gen V - 16 Votes, 25.4%)
  21. (Electric: Gen V - 15 Votes, 23.44%)
  22. (Poison: Gen VIII - 14, 24.56%)
  23. (Bug: Gen VII - 14 Votes, 20.59%)
  24. (Dragon: Gen VI - 14 Votes, 19.44%)
  25. (Steel: Gen VI - 13, 23.64%)
  26. (Flying: Gen VI - 13 Votes, 21.67%)
  27. (Water: Gen III - 13 Votes, 21.31%)
  28. (Ground: Gen V - 12 Votes, 20.00%, 28-21 Tiebreak over Gen III)
  29. (Fairy: Gen VI - 12 Votes, 19.67%)
  30. (Fighting: Gen IX - 12 Votes, 18.75%)
  31. (Normal: Gen VIII - 11 Votes, 18.64%)
  32. (Ghost: Gen IV - 10 Votes, 13.70%, 26-23 Tiebreak over Gen IX)
(Psychic: Gen II - 9 Votes, 16.36%)
(Rock: Gen II/III - 9 Votes, 15.00%)
(Grass: Gen I/Gen V - 9 Votes, 14.75%)
(Ice: Gen III - 9 Votes, 13.85%)

I've put together a bracket using the above numbers as seeds, and I'm going to give a little bit of time for people to make any predictions they want to make before I start the contest itself. Note: match-ups will be 1v1, 1 per day, poll determining each day's winner. In the event of a day ending in a tie, I will cast the tiebreaking vote. Anyway, here is the bracket, so make your predictions!

It's nice to see that every generation got at least one type into the bracket.

In a relatively high-scoring match-up first seed Gen I Fire was kept close at the start of the round by its opponent, Gen IV Ghost. In the end though, Gen I Fire secured the win in a 31-19 result to advance to round 2.

Forgot to do this yesterday. Though Gen I Rock couldn't quite match-up with the score put up by Gen IV Ghost in its first-round match-up, Gen IV Fighting certainly matched the score Gen I Fire gave, winning its match in a 31-17 vote to advance to the sweet sixteen.

Gen VI wasn't able to win a single typing, yet here, Gen VI Dragon manages a solid victory over Gen IV Ice (eliminating Ice from the tournament entirely, as yesterday saw the same with Rock). It's not quite up to the votals of the first two days, but it still wasn't close in a 29-16 vote.

FINALLY we had a close match-up as both Gen I Electric with its iconic mascot and other big names still found itself struggling against the power of Gen VI Steel's mega evolutions and the Aegislash line. It came down to a single vote, but Gen I Electric advances to face another set of mega evolutions in round two, by a score of 21-20.

Gen I Ground a super effective match-up against Gen V Electric, complete with a higher seeding in its favor, but at the end of the day, through a close match-up, Gen V Electric came out on top in a 23-21 decision, which marks BOTH of the Electric rosters in this tournament making it into the sweet sixteen.

Gen V Ground showed that there are enough people out there that like the rosters Ground has to offer, but in the end, Gen III Grass just proved too strong to overcome, securing victory in a 21-16 vote.

Gen V has had three matches in a row, with mixed results. This time, however, the sheer number of Pokemon on offer (to offset some of the duds) proved too much for Gen II Dark's admittedly-limited roster of six to overcome, as Gen V Fire wins in a 24-17 vote.

Yesterday's match saw a handy win for Gen I Poison, but it still seems less than it could have been, facing off against Gen VI's Fairy wild card, yet not quite managing to score the kind of blowout this match-up should have warranted. Still, a 26-16 victory puts Gen I Poison into the Sweet Sixteen all the same.

Man, you guys make me sad. Yesterday's match almost ended with the first doubling of the contest (when even Gen VI Fairy avoided a doubling against Gen I Poison). I knew it was an uphill battle, but still, Gen IX Fighting deserved better, and Gen III Dragon secured a solid 27-14 win.

Dark's strongest roster couldn't hold its own against Gen V Fire, yet when it came to taking on Gen I Normal (which I personally consider a very strong selection of Pokemon, especially with classics like Snorlax, Meowth/Persian, Eevee, Ditto, Porygon, and the Normal/Flying birds), Gen IX Dark reigned supreme, keeping Gen IX in the contest another round (should've been Fighting though) by a score of 23-17.

Yeah, Gen IX Fighting really should've won that, but I can't be too upset since Gen III Dragon is so good.

In the biggest blowout of the contest thus far, Gen I Water almost quadruples Gen VIII Poison while posters in the voting topic demonstrate terrible opinions on the quality of Gen VIII's Poison roster. :P But yeah, another big and relatively obvious win for Gen I, by a score of 31-8.
