Played on the radio about 10 years ago; metal-y and I could swear it sounded like they were using an 8-string. Fast, high energy song and I want to say the singer sounded a bit like Coheed and Cambria guy, but it's obviously not him.

Here's my first guess... Without doxxing yourself it might be helpful to know the general region you're from in case it's a regional thing. I'm not sure The Dear Hunter get much radio play outside of the New England area they're from, but I've heard them on the radio

I'm in Florida, but it was playing on WJRR at the time, which is based out of Orlando.

I want to say it was faster and heavier than all of these. The first song is the probably closest, but still off the mark quite a bit.

This more along the lines of... metalcore(?).
