I mentioned this in another topic about ears but I periodically get mine flushed out with water irrigation at my doctor's office.

When I leave there I feel so good and when I'm at work I can hear the scratching noise from a pencil when someone is writing all the way across the room. Makes me feel like I have a super power in those instances haha.

One time after a very long and severe period of plugged ears, I got them cleaned out, and for about the next day, I felt like I had super hearing. Everything was so loud. It was intense

Does that put you in more danger of hearing loss? The wax is practically a natural earplug.

Is this something that you schedule at your doctor's office? I just use q tips, which is discouraged in every medical document you read, but what else do people buy them for?

I've heard that various methods of cleaning your ears are a scam, like the candle thing. Does your general care physician do this? Do you go to an ear doctor?

I keep my ears clean but a deep clean would be nice. So nasty when I use ear buds.

I'm worried I'm losing my hearing. I got them cleaned recently and while I feel it helped some, strangely my own voice still sounds off to me.

Whenever my ears get completely clogged to the point it feels like I have ear plugs in, I just use a nasal aspirator and spray warm/hot water in my ears over the sink. It really cleans my ears out to the point I feel like I have super hearing for about a week. Big chunks of wax come out.

There are tons of youtube videos showing how to do this and it works fine for me. My ears only get that clogged once every several years though. For some people it happens way more often.

The other day I had it removed with a vacuum.

But before I've had it removed with water like the second poster, and they also use a metal device to remove loose pieces. The difference between that device and q tips is the doctors can actually see what they are doing, and they'll pull out pieces while the q tips will push pieces of wax back in your ear against the walls of the ear too probably

Next time you go to your primary doctor you should ask if they can clean your ears for you

But before I've had it removed with later like the second poster
They have a squirt bottle they use nowadays that works extremely well. Spurt spurt spurt and we're basically done.

The first time they were using warm saline and a nasal syringe, took like 45 minutes.

I did the vacuum method once. It was hell. Maybe it's not always supposed to be like this, but when the doctor did it to me, it felt like I was being stabbed in my ears. And later I found out it was because when the wax came out, it took pieces of skin off my ears with it. My ears were all raw and even after the wax was gone, I still couldn't hear because of the damage. Had to use special ear drops for like a week at least before it stopped hurting and cleared up. I will never let them use that method again
