It's heartbreaking how 0 is one of the best Yakuza games, and then K1 is so mid

I feel Kiwami 1's biggest failure was that it committed too hard in replicating the original work.

Because the original RGG1 was a very different game from what the series ended up becoming by the time of 0.

So instead we have the early RGG1 weirdness, with Kiwami 1's added content in a tonal dissonance.

That said, going from 0 to 1 is the harder pill to swallow than going from 0 to K1.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a mod for that.

I think its biggest failure is just copy pasting a worse version of the 0 combat system tbh.

I guess they tried to balance it more or something, but combat in Kiwami 1 is ASS. Any heavy hit just puts you on the floor and beast got absolutely neutered. I vastly prefer even 3s combat to whatever we got with Kiwami 1.

K1 is my least favorite in the franchise. I just dislike so much about it.

K1 is at least vastly superior to the original game. So it has that going for it.

Yeah, but Majima sucked in the original so it evens out.

Majima in 1 was so weird. He appeared three times.

1. The first meeting in the alley behind Serena in the prologue.
2. He kidnaps Haruka and Kiryu fights him in the batting cages.
3. He drives the truck into Shangri-La.

And every time he exited the story just as suddenly as he entered. Like he didn't get other scenes where he was talking to other characters besides Kiryu. No one ever really talks about him unless he's present in the story at that moment.

There's a case to be made in 1 that Majima is a figment of Kiryu's imagination.

K1 is easily my favorite Yakuza game so far (0, 3, and both Kiwamis). It's just such a slick experience compared to 0. The bosses are obviously pretty terrible, although Yakuza has never had good bosses anyway.

I would call it the opposite of slick. To me its a choppy, much less satisfying experience than every other yakuza game (not including original 1 and 2). Stuff like Majima everywhere is just grafted on and kind of nonsensical to the game overall, and as i said earlier, the combat is awful

It is far, far from slick. Needing to grind Majima Everywhere for late game skills is horrible and feels awful. The bosses are WORSE in this one than any of the series.

Only thing I hated about Kiwami is that you had to basically spam tiger drop

Damn, I just finished 0 a few days ago. I have K1 + 2, as well as 3-5 downloaded, but after reading this topic I think I might want to just skip ahead to Like a Dragon (AKA 7). I was a little interested in K1 and K2 because of the Majima content, but IDK now lol.

They're still definitely worth playing. They're just not as good as 0. That said, 0 is so good, that they're still also good.

need to get back to 0.

beat Yakuza Like A Dragon recently. and yeah, this game was wild as fuck!

definitely loved Ichiban as a protagonist. dude is likeable as hell!

Ichiban is the sweetest boy I'm love him
