it's wild that of the two main domesticated animals/pets, it's cats that are treated as a "set it and forget it" thing, like they're fully expected to just be able to self govern themselves and for the most part, they do

you jut bring one home and like that's it now. you show it where it can poop and where it's food and water are and it's like "okay see ya around"

cats are purely entertainment animals

even just idly petting one while you fall asleep?
or glancing over and seeing them standing/sitting/lying/walking there and you let your gaze linger for longer than a standard glance?

that's technically entertainment

dogs can also be an entertainment animal, but their entire purpose is to be a working animal, either through herding, guarding, attacking, sniffing, ect.

cats used to also be a working animal, but over time they became an animal who you solely seek out to just "have", to be entertained by, with no other expectations upon them aside from them just being "a cat"

there are a higher intelligence amongst cats though, some of them do desire to be more than "just a cat" and seek out jobs!

some cats will go and spend time with old people in a nursing home, some cats will go to warehouses and guard them from smaller critters, while some go to war overseas to fight for their country.

That would largely depend on your circumstances. Not every person who can have a pet, should be allowed to have a pet. And there are too many stray cats who suffer from disease, starvation, bad weather, parasites, getting hit by cars, and other injuries.

And if you leave your cat indoors while you're at work, a surprising number of them will go online and use your credit card to pay for porn.

Hell yeah. I'd have to specify that I'd like to be a house-cat, though...I don't think the thrill of feral life would suit me. I'm content to be a silly little guy who sleeps on top of the TV set.
