Still a fairly big split. Positives of the case include an interesting murder premise that delivers on its concept, the middle portion of the case, and two really good scenes with Lang. Most people agreed that the smuggling ring is a particularly weak overarching plot. There were many opinions on Alba, some liking that he was tough to take down, some hating how long it took, and some that were a mixture of both. It does well enough to be the top case of its game, a trend for all finale cases except AJ (assuming we count 1-5 as a DLC case like 5-6 and 6-6).

Summary:

Edgeworth is called to the scene of an attempted political assassination, and though he solves the case, he soon realizes that something much larger is already brewing...

Main Characters: Miles Edgeworth, Dick Gumshoe, Kay Faraday
Other Characters: Nicole Swift, Shelly de Killer, Winston Payne, Di-Jun Huang, Horace Knightley, Ethan Rooke

My Rating: 7/10. I've had pretty low ratings for AJ and AAI1, which I feel are easily the low points of the AA series. That won't happen for AAI2, of which I am a huge, huge fan of. E2-1 is right up there with 3-1 for amazing Case 1s. The fake assassination is interesting to get your feet wet, but of course, it really kicks in when you investigate the murder. I always liked the Logic Chess against Huang. It's kind of a dig at AAI1's long take of international diplomacy in E1-5, while also showing that Edgeworth doesn't back down for anyone. But the real star is Knightley. He's one of my favorite one-off culprits. He's got a fun design and he's a surprisingly astute and clever murderer. The revolver swap at the end is great.

It's good! It's refreshing for a game to have a first case that gets right into the meat of things. Although this does have tutorials, it doesn't feel like a tutorial case because it feels properly long and fleshed out instead of just a short appetizer. Of course, part of this is that AAI2's pacing is just longer in general, and some of its later cases drag a bit... but this case is the beneficiary by being just the right length. There's not a lot about this case that stands out particularly strongly to me, but it's a good setup for the rest of the game, Horace Knightley is a great villain, and Shelly de Killer is probably the funniest possible choice for a first witness.

Best first case. Strong cast, loved bringing back Shelly de Killer (even if Edgeworth should have recognized his symbol...!). Knightley and Huang are really good starter villains. I like Nicole as a witness, too.

finally playing through this game for the first time, and wow its already better than aai1 and im an aai1 apologist -

this was really fun right out the gate! knightey is a fun antagonist, his animations are so damn good! it is fun to see shelley again, but i will say that im annoyed that edgeworth didn't take notice of the obvious calling cards on shelley's uniform. its only a nitpick, tho. im really excited to finish this game, cuz it seems like its more even in quality according to the fanbase.

logic chess is also fun! i'm still kinda getting the hang of it, but i definitely like it better than perceive.

One case in and AAI2 already has a better case than all of AAI1's cases combined.

I feel like this whole game is slightly over loved but I think I may have just been overhyped going into it.

Hot take: Logic Chess isn't very good
Logic Chess was their attempt of giving Edgeworth his own unique "Psyche Locks" feature and it wasn't as effective.

Best intro case in the series, by far. Everyone involved in this case is spectacular, especially Knightley, and having the silly Lotta Hart disciple be a twist conspirator is super cool.

also logic chess is great. it's not really memorable but it's just a slight twist on the trial/magatama format and it's leagues above perceiving

I think Logic Chess tends to be repetitive and is super easy to brute force your way through via process of elimination. The aesthetics and presentation are cool, but the execution is a bit lacking.

The only case in AAI-2 I can rate! Was nice to see de Killer come back and do his usual stuff. (I thought Edgeworth did recognize the card, but never outright said what it was because PANIC) Knightley was also a fun "first case baddie" and it was even more fun when he got killed off a day later.

I really should play AAI-2 in full.

The only other first case that challenges it is 4-1. This game easily has the best overall cases of the series (the "low" point is the second case, and only because it's so dragged out), making it all the more disappointing that it still hasn't officially come to the west.

Huh, didn't realize there were AAI2 players that didn't finish it.

As always, these topics may contain spoilers for that particular case. Though, with some cases, it can get really hard to keep it contained to just that case (such as 3-4 and 3-5), but I'll aim to do it here.

With AAI1, I wondered if maybe the first case was the best in the game, which was an indictment (Though I do think I'd probably put case 5 above it, from the little I remember)

For AAI2, I certainly think this is the best case in the game. (And I played this more recently, enough that I can remember feeling that way for sure) Except that's decently high praise because AAI2 is solid.

I'll be curious to see how low the vote totals are for this game compared to the rest of the series. I wonder how many people here never bothered, either because of AAI1 or because they didn't want to deal with emulation and patching the game.
