Or in other words, which of those games is the show more based off of (draws material from the most etc)?

Ive played all 3 of those but its been several years, and I know everyone is gonna recommend me to play New Vegas (and rightfully so, it is probably the best one imo), but which of these games will give me the best synergy in terms of material with the TV show before I watch it?

Fallout is an amazing show and cannot wait for season 2.

The show is obviously 3 and is literally the same plot lol.

Season 2 is setting up to be New Vegas.

It definitely fits in with 3 and 4 in terms of tone. But everyone needs to be real with themselves about Fallout. There is absolutely no consistent tone or serious lore maintenance. This stuff is getting ridiculous. 1 was somewhat serious and then 2 was extremely whacky (and it's also a really good game). Literally nothing about the setting actually makes sense if you think about it and instead of just enjoying games or the show people are freaking out over minor lore shit. And you want to talk about shitting on the lore? Ever play Brotherhood of Steel? Shit games predate Bethesda and were much shittier. People really need to stop taking a series never meant to be taken this seriously (okay maybe 1, but even then it isn't that serious), so seriously.

Almost a tie between 3 and 4. Dont really have the time to play both, I wanna play a good chunk of a playthrough before I start the show, but I dont wanna take too long to watch it.

Leaning towards 4 since I finished 3 and its DLC waaay back when they first came out, but never played more than 10-15 hours of 4 overall.

draws material from? as in, canon and lore? then you want to play 1 and 2. they both take place in the west, as was originally intended, and there's even literally a town that is a big part of the story in 2 that is in the show as well. seems to be canon entirely.

visually? 4 only because it's colorful.

it's not shitting on lore when the lore was hardly established and everyone and their mother was trying to own the ip and create their own game or spin-off to try to get something to stick. besides, BoS isn't even that horrible of a game if you line it up with any lower budget PS2 game.
