Sorry for the vague title but it would be way over 80/80.

Say you're really familiar with a character an actor plays. Take for instance Tom Hanks in The Burbs. Have you ever seen a later movie and tried to convince yourself that the character in the later movie was the same character, just later in life? For instance, Tom Hanks in Cast Away. They're very obviously not the same character but in my head I'll often say "Cast Away is just how his life ended up after the events of The Burbs" lol hopefully that makes sense. I've never verbalized this before, and I probably shouldn't have tried to.

It can be fun, sometimes it works better than others.

Sonny from Dog Day Afternoon found himself in Cuba as a result of his stint in prison (stretch but you never know) and turned into the Tony Montana character from Scarface. We never saw Sonny's parents or siblings, so for all we know he moved to NYC from Miami when he was young and used "Sonny" as an alias to start over in the big city. Sonny did have a wife and kids though. Tony Montana liked kids, probably because he missed his own from when he was Sonny. He was familiar with weapons already, understood money laundering because he worked in a bank. Neither character was super intelligent, but both were very street smart...
