It took me some time to learn that Carvanha evolves to Sharpedo. Since their real-life inspiration is a (typically) bony freshwater fish and a (typically) cartilaginous marine fish, and they don't really look alike.

...and I still forget about it time to time!

Remoraid and Octillery still gets me sometimes

Whenever I see Snorunt I'm always like, awww what a cute little friend and then I instantly remember he evolves into the disaster that is Glalie and then a few moments later that if he's a girl, she becomes Froslass.

It's always an adventure... but not a good one... :(

most of the likely offenders here are mons i care about so i can't think of any i ever mistake like this. at most i sometimes just need to jog my memory once in a while on what the evos or preevos for some (a select few) mons are, like say, salandit, or sewaddle (it's easy to remember swadloon, but sometimes i blank on leavanny. but if i were to be looking at a swadloon or leavanny proper i'd easily remember the full line), or armaldo...

I know it's not what you mean by "pokemon that are related", it makes me think of
A) version exclusive or limited pairs, like Ekans and Sandshrew, I forget for example right now what Meowth pairs with in rby but right now I re-remembered it's Mankey. Or Oranguru and Passimian is one.
B) Pokedex entries with other pokemon. Raichu knocking over a Copperajah always makes me go "oh yeah that's a thing, they have a relation" or Onix disturbing Diglett tunnels and such

Other way around, sometimes I forget Carbink and Diancie ARENT related by evolution line

Reading through some entries now, like I didn't realize that Pinsir/Heracross both relate to Vikavolt via a rivalry. Or that Elekid and Togedemaru are related though fighting as well.

Venonat should evolve into Butterfree. They look soooo alike.

Cubone to Marowak to Kangaskhan (with a baby Cubone in its pouch) always looked like it made too much sense too.

And as always, how the hell are Luvdisc and Alomomola not related?!

They 100% swapped them to make the early game one more marketable. Venomoth looks like Caterpie and Metapod too. It's a nothing issue but it bugs the shit out of me ngl

Tangentially, I sometimes forget Spoink has an evolution.

Oh and Remoraid and Octillery is a classic one for sure.

I mean, sure, I was thinking of evolution lines, but this is also an interesting aspect of Pokemon. Also I like it when new Pokemon has an older Pokemon in its Dex entry, makes the world feel more interconnected.

Skitty and Wailord will most certainly be a verboten subject under our new regime.
