The broken tracker image at the bottom of the page can be blocked with Adblock or a similar element blocker, but it has variable characters in its URL that change each time so I need to learn regex...

not if it's a Chrome browser apparently which is why I'm popping in here

got some weird glitch on my phone (Samsung Internet browser) where Gamefaqs boards have like, a 1 second input delay on anything I do. no other websites have this input delay. tried everything I can think of to clear it but nothing working so far. was wondering if there's a similar issue on Chrome so open it up, no problem on the main page, go to the boards - immediate obnoxious full screen ad with no clear indicator on how to close it. just close the tab entirely.

I have adblock on the Samsung browser (my default where my issue lies) and as far as I can tell there is no app capability for enabling adblock on Chrome on mobile!

I never abandoned firefox.

For the record, the politics containment topic being "the only political topic allowed on the board" is also dumb as fuck (though slightly better than the way it was). I'm not saying I want the board to be flooded with political topics, but I thought it was totally fair when, for instance, Corrik made a topic about Russia invading Ukraine when that had just happened. And as several people have mentioned before, it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to talk at all without bringing up something that could be seen as "political."

I've hardly done anything on this board but bump topics for the past year and a half anyway (real life getting in the way), but there's a good chance I'm just going to leave the board altogether in the not too distant future because of this shit. Thanks for ruining a board I've had a mostly enjoyable time on for the past 20 years, Fandom.

Yes, the "one politics topic only" is fucking stupid.

GFAQs in the immediate aftermath 9/11 world was one of those things that probably helped keep many of us sane because holy shit that was crazy. But most(Maybe all?) of the fandom admins aren't even old enough to have that experience anywhere.

By that I mean post in ways that some weird out of touch adults think 12 year olds post.

I've had a GameFAQs account here since 2003, and used these boards on a regular basis throughout the mid to late 2000s, and enjoyed posting on various gaming boards here during that time. I became busy with life after that, so I haven't used GameFAQs much since then, but it's saddening to see that Fandom bought it out nearly 2 years ago.

They ruin everything they touch and plaster everything with ads, ads, and more ads. Thankfully, I was already using Firefox + uBlock Origin for years (both on PC and mobile), so I don't have to see any of that garbage. But people shouldn't have to use an adblocker just to view any Fandom site.

The fact that SBAllen stepped down recently after being an admin for nearly 2 decades says a lot about how GameFAQs is dying a slow death. What alternative exists to replace GameFAQs? I did notice a Discord server in a sticky thread... do people still use it?

I have no words left and I'm sure everything I was thinking saying were things that other people were already thinking anyway, but I wanted to get it off my chest.

This is why I hate it when someone (usually NFUN) chimes in with a snarky "adblock?" As if we haven't heard of them or even used them before. The point is, they should be a convenience, not something that is mandatory to make a site functional, especially when the browser I've been using on my phone for years and years and am otherwise extremely happy with doesn't support them, I shouldn't have to change browsers for one site.

GFAQs has for a long time been usable with ads, especially on mobile(I've had adblock on desktop for too long to know the experience). And if there was an intrusive ad popped up you could report it and usually it would get taken care of.

With fandom, nope, we're pretty much stuck with what we get.

Which is hilarious when the ads don't comply with fandom's "no hornyposting" rule. By hilarious I mean borderline pathetic

And sometimes you get a free virus, out of nowhere, as a treat

I've had an adblocker on my comp for quite sometime (though Youtube is becoming a pain in the ass with it). But I've never had one on my phone, nor the need for one, until Fandom took over GameFAQs. And as I've said, the browser I've been using for pretty much my entire time with a smart phone and have been perfectly happy with doesn't even support it.

yeah but adblock has been basically required for half the internet for decades so not only has that ship sailed, it hit an iceberg, crashed, and claimed more victims who tried visiting in a homemade bathyscaphe. it's sad this site got affected but it's genuinely miraculous if you didn't need it for any other site

I always thought that Fandom scraped other sites to automate copying their wikis and that's why you'd always find some shitty 80% complete clone on Google when you're looking for a legitimate site. It seriously kinda blew my mind to learn that there are actual non-bot users on those wikis and all of the copying is manually done by humans.
