Surprisingly I think I'd have a decent chance of getting on the jury were I able to be eligible. Nothing but a lot of pro-Sanders stuff in 2015 on my actual social media. No chance if they find my GFAQs account posts, however Current Events is now private and Politics is locked so no access to the archive so lol maybe even then?

The role of the media (not just Faux News and the Right Wing noise machine) in promoting Trump and Trumpism deserves a much closer look. There's something here specific to Trump -- perhaps it's as simple as the Greatest Media Whore of All Time and the media being mutually good for each other's bottom line.

I don't see why anyone outside of the courtroom needs to know their occupations, family status, etc? Seems like it's just opening up the potential for doxxing without any benefit, it's barely even interesting much less relevant.

It's probably exactly that. The people that are willing to watch those channels love to hear them talking about Trump. And because of that, when they talk about him, promoting him or denigrating him, the people watch. Their ratings plummet when they don't have Trump to push.

The entire media forgot how to do responsible journalism because everything has been Trump Trump Trump for 8 years.

"My apologies to the jurors, you're all dismissed. Going forward this trial will seat a new jury using the exact same juror anonymity protocols we use for trials of organized crime bosses. Anyone who breaches juror anonymity will be prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law. In addition, if any lawyer in this case breaches anonymity, they will be immediately removed from this case, and a recommendation will be sent to the bar association for disbarment. This trial is not a joke, and it will not be a media circus. In case defendant personally breaches anonymity, he will be held in jail without bail for the duration of this trial, with no access to social media."

Does he, though? I mean, if the courts aren't going to do their jobs, they're really setting a precedent for no longer following the rules, and using illegal methods to dole out justice.

If the judge doesn't do this then this trial will end up in a mistrial or a hung jury because now people will be terrified knowing that the court will not protect them from Trump and the media and the media should something happen to these people as a result will gleefully dig into their lives and plaster their names and faces for all to see and seeing how this judge handles repeated and malicious violations of his gag orders I'm sadly not gonna be surprised if the judge does nothing.

Jury anonymity should be a constitutionally protected right, for all jurors, always. Let the lawyers and courts dig into them as much as they want, but everything they find needs to be considered privileged. I do not need to know anything about any of these people, beyond that they have been vetted by prosecution, defense, and judge.

Another scary part of this is non action or rather inconsequential action will not only embolden Trump and his supporters but it will cause them to ramp up their efforts and attacks and actual action such as actually throwing Trump in jail will cause a shitload of controversy and tons of articles and pendants making videos titled "Trump headed to jail! Did the judge go too far?" because the dumbest arguments are often the most discussed especially in a 24/7 news media and especially among independent content creators looking for those sweet sweet clicks and that sweet sweet ad renew, all of them do it, progressive,liberal,libertarian, conservative doesn't matter which base they all answer to $$$

he's got (at least) 3 more criminal trials coming up too. if he threatens too many people on this jury, or if one of his psycho supporters actually attacks one, will they even be able to get people in the courthouse for the other trials?

jury duty might be a civic duty but the government also has a duty to keep the jurors safe

I feel like if that stuff happens a ruling would come down that it is in fact not the government's duty to keep any juror safe

It is fucked up that CNN published those details. I do not want to see those jurors or their families become targets for threats and harassment from the MAGA crazies.

Just a few weeks ago one of them called Letitia James and left a voice message saying he'd hunt hurn down and kill her if she took any of Trump's money or properties. He even gave his name, IIRC. These people are unhinged, and they are 100% capable of violence. And the media should know better. Hell, they do know better. They just don't care.

I feel like a lot of things in America can be described like this and that saddens and angers me which further saddens me because that anger and sadness does nothing but impact your own mental and in some people's cases, physical health, when you think about life in such a way is it any wonder why there's no hope for the future among the populace, why so many people speak of the future as a dystopian nightmare come to fruition from the modern day's cabal of sociopathic villains?

I believe the Internet is helping with that, because the schools sure aren't.

Other outlets like USA Today have also reported details on the jurors, though not nearly as much as CNN did. Real worry is that, even if they all somehow remain anonymous and wind up convicting him, they'll definitely be found out afterwards. Then the real death threats would begin.

In the message to Engoron, Vogel wrote, If you want to temporarily withhold his property assets or bank accounts and then give them back to him with interest then thats totally fine, according to photos of the texts included in the petition for the protection order.

In his texts to both James and Engoron, Vogel said that if they reported his threats to police, he would defend himself with deadly force and go after you with deadly force.

In the text to James, Vogel said he owned a whole wall of deadly weapons.

This is the kind of lunatic a juror is going to be dealing with if the media outs them. Some of these prospective jurors might vote to acquit regardless of the evidence just because they fear for their lives.

The way I think jury selection should go is like this. When the jurors are brought in the only ones allowed in the courtroom are the judge, courtroom staff, any jurors that have been selected, Trump, and both legal teams. At this point the perspective jurors will be given the information needed about the case and any juror that doesn't think they can be impartial is dismissed. At that point the ones in the courtroom hear the information about the remaining group.

After this point media is allowed in for the questioning portion and jurors are selected. Once this jury pool is exhausted. The courtroom is emptied and the next batch of jurors come in. Once the jury and alternates are chosen only then will the public get to hear a little bit more about the jurors but even this would be very basic. For instance if Juror number 7 is a 43 year old neurosurgeon the media would be told "Juror 7 is middle aged and works in healthcare"

Oh yeah and if anyone decides to be cute and give this information out they would be found in contempt and be sentenced to 30 days. If Trump did it he would have bond revoked and be remanded until the completion of his trial.

The judge explicitly said they could report on anything that was in public record so I'm guessing all that stuff is in public record. Still shouldn't be allowed though.

"CNN just put these people's lives in danger by posting their information, so I'm gonna go ahead and do literally that exact same thing right here" is not a breed of logic that makes a great deal of sense to me.

That said, I'm also over here scratching my head at why the prosecution allowed someone who follows Trump and reads his books to go through. That seems like a cut-and-dry strike for cause to me.
