Israel to carry out 'limited' strike within Iran, according to a U.S. official

An official in the American government tells CBS about the Biden administration's expectations, as well as the Israelis 'not sharing its targeting'

American officials expected a "limited" Israeli strike within Iran, following the Iranian attack on Israel over the weekend, a senior U.S. official told CBS.
According to the American news channel, officials within U.S. President Joe Biden's administration are expecting Israel to make this decision but have not been sharing its "targeting."
According to the CBS report from David Martin, the U.S. does not know what will be the Israeli retaliation or when it will happen.
Furthermore, the official said it was not clear if Israel would give the U.S. a heads up, and could just say that as of it the report there had been no notification.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister referred Tuesday night to the issue, during a press conference he held with his German counterpart, saying that the international community should try to prevent the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from stealing the international attention.
"We are against escalation. Netanyahu wants to divert attention from Gaza and focus on his confrontation with Iran," the Jordanian foreign minister added.

I thought Iran came out and said after their drones were shot down that they were done with the retaliation... so, why in the shit is Isreal, who made the first attack against them, continuing?

Yeah.

It's been argued that Iran only retaliated due to public pressure in the country because people were saying that they were being soft on Israel.

Sending 300 drones/missiles towards Israel sounds like a huge attack, but Iran gave Israel, the UK and the USA time to install defenses, and were even kind enough to send out the slow moving drones first so they'd knew the attack was coming.

Israel could just leave it at that, but nope, they need to be the strong man so we're going to get more of this crap.

Well Biden is going to fund this war too.

I even praised Biden for that. But it looks like Israel will not listen and Biden said he would never drop them no matter what they did.

Isreal escalating matters even further would be the stupidest thing imaginable for everyone. Maybe they expected fear of the US alone would have been enough to detour retaliation but that didnt work.

Best to simply take the L and move on.

The limited scale of the attack and Iran's muted response appeared to signal a successful effort by diplomats who have been working to avert all-out war since an Iranian drone and missile attack on Israel last Saturday.

Iranian media and officials described a small number of explosions, which they said resulted from air defences hitting three drones over the city of Isfahan in central Iran. Notably, they referred to the incident as an attack by "infiltrators", rather than by Israel, obviating the need for retaliation.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters there were no plans to respond against Israel for the incident.
"The foreign source of the incident has not been confirmed. We have not received any external attack, and the discussion leans more towards infiltration than attack," the official said.

Jonathan Lord, head of the Middle East security program at the Center for a New American Security, a U.S. think tank, said that "seems to indicate that Iran is seeking to step down off the ledge, minimise the impact of the attack, and perhaps walk back down the escalation ladder from here".
