Im just worried about a mod going rogue and warning someone for lets say calling a politician a bigot. I got warned back in the day for calling John McCain a bigot back in the day for trying to prevent gays from openly serving in the military.

Idk about the misogyny, it's been a baseline level of bad for the 4ish years I've been here.

I've dipped in and out over the years and it definitely feels like it's become a better place. Some of the good users I remember seem to have departed though

No, additional rules makes the bad actors on the mod team worse. Some of them would be worse than Derek Chauvin if they had real authority.

A lot of 261 trolls got filtered out. Both by the 50 karma minimum, and also by the fact that's even easy to get modded on CE than it was on 261.

No more hopping back in with a 3 karma alt, and a lot of unsubtle bullshit get nuked a lot quicker over here.

In other words, the chaff fell to the wayside.

I think its better now than compared to a few years ago (last time I was here regularly), but overall its more toxic than when I first started posting on gamefaqs.

Something I found odd is I ignored The Admiral and know he was banned. I went to my ignore list and he was active a few months ago. Why is he logging in?

This was still going on on 261 last year. People were getting modded for the following asinine reasons under "abuse":
--Calling a racist poster a racist (to be fair, I am sure there are plenty of instances where some of the more toxic 261ers abused the term) with the apparent mod excuse being that ad-hominems of other community members is a zero tolerance offense.

--Calling a racist/white nationalist politician, a member of the Proud Boys, or some other not-a-member-of-the-Gamefaqs-community public figure a racist (seriously) For abuse (or maybe I'm remembering incorrectly and it was modded for trolling) Though looking at the report abuse options, I do see that "Abusive Behavior" does not specify that the target has to be a community member. This is not how the rule was enforced for the majority of Gamefaqs history, which instead split the abusive category into "Flaming" (personal attacks/insults to other board members) and "Sexual Preference Insult" Whereas hate speech-type attacks towards other users fell under "Offensive"

Modded under "Offensive":
--There were literally instances where someone posted a topic about white supremacists, white nationalists, or literal Neonazi public figures or "activist" groups, and posters would get modded for referring to said assholes as Nazis, with the mod essentially telling them that it's not okay to Godwin. (Godwin's law actually refers to playing the Nazi/Hitler/holocaust card in online discussions when it is not appropriate.)
Now, I can imagine that some of the mods would have argued "white nationalists are not the same thing as NeoNazis", but most users-- as well as many other mods-- would argue that this is distinction without a difference.

What makes this even more absurd is that after Charlottesville Godwin himself actually came out to say that no, it's not Godwin's Law when you're talking about actual white supremacists like these, or to make comparisons to Nazis that are based on actual historical parallels.

Actually, putting "hide topic" out on the title before having to go in should've been a priority change years ago.
