Its on sale right now. Ive never fully gotten into Borderlands, Ive played all the others but only for a few hours each before losing interest. I love the idea of loot-based games but I mainly like picking up new armor and seeing my character look cooler over time so when its just weapons and you cant see your character it doesnt interest me as much.

Is the gameplay enough of an upgrade over the other games to give it a shot?

I thought it was really fun, but the plot and characters are just awful. Most of the dialogue is unskippable too so it can be really grating

If you like the franchise I would say go check out the character builder (like this: https://bl3skills.com/) and see if any of the cast has a skillset you think you'd really enjoy. If you do, it's worth $9. If you don't, don't bother.

The playable characters and gameplay were amazing. The story and post-game content were not. DLC for the 4th skill tree is necessary for maximum fun, too.

Game with all DLC is worth that much. Otherwise, nah. BL2 holds up.

The gameplay is massively improved from 2 but my god, the characters and dialogue are insanely annoying.

I just cant replay it and face those voicelines again

my big issue with 3 is how linear it is compared to 2. none of the side missions or optional content is interesting, and far too often ends up just sending you through the same area you just came from, except with a different enemy to kill, then some super hilarious dialogue for your trouble

If you could skip all that shit I would have played it a lot more, but I just couldn't bring myself to start up a third character knowing what and how much I was going to have to sit through.

I seem to remember hearing it's better to buy the version with all the DLC than any of the others.

I don't really remember anything at all about it except the character I played used a giant mech with missile pods or plasma guns that just trivialized everything and pretty much negated the need to actually find and use guns, which is like the whole point of the series.

I've tried 1 2 3 and Pre-Sequel and I legit can't get into any of them. I just don't gel with it at all.

They're really much better in couch co-op, which unfortunately was completely scuffed at launch in BL3 and they never really fixed it. We're talking "the game drops to single digit framerates for a few seconds if either player opens their inventory" levels of bad.

I definitely think 2 is better. But I'd also say 3 is definitely worth it for $9 if you like the Borderlands series. My problem with it was the jokes felt way too forced, the campaign was too long (really felt like it was dragging on forever), and the characters (not just playable characters) just aren't that interesting. I found the villains annoying.

According to my Steam profile, I have 247 hours in Borderlands 2. I also bought the Handsome Collection and played it on PS4 a few years later when my first bought it and asked me to play with her. Loved the game that much. Tried all the characters at least somewhat, except for Krieg since I didn't have him on PC and only did 1 playthrough on PS4 and picked Gaige since I wanted to try a new character. With Borderlands 3, I beat the main campaign exactly once, and that was enough for me. Didn't even do the NG+ for that game. I didn't want to slog through it anymore.

i tried 3 on my own and it was too annoying. i tried it with a couple friends and they both found it really boring and uninteresting. personally i see no reason to recommend it. 2 and pre-sequel were fun though.

Yeah, I think it's worth $9.

Imo bl3 has the best gameplay in the series, it's also the most fun I had in any of the previous entries. That said, the writing and plot are the absolute worst, I recommend you either mod the game or mute the dialogue because it really is beyond stupid.

Arms Race has some of the best items in the game, for example.

Xbox keeps trying to sell me the entire Borderlands series plus DLC for $30, which is a pretty fantastic deal but I already have everything except Tales.

3 has the best guns and gunplay in the series and the most varied skill trees.

But it's dragged down by an absolutely abysmal story. The villains try way too hard and don't really feel threatening at all. And even worse (spoilers) the cutscenes completely ignore your existence. It's not obvious at first, but every time something happens with the villains via cutscene, the game acts as if you aren't there. Like the big bads attack your ally who you were just standing next to, but now, you're suddenly not there to intervene.
