I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

The tournament has now begun. The discussion topic is here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80744044 and the bracket is here: https://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=478370

Today features our only Gen II roster to make the field by winning its type outright, or coming in second to secure a wild card position (Psychic just came up short of making the field.) It has its work cut out for it, however, as its relatively small roster faces off against the gargantuan (by comparison) Gen V Fire, both halves of which have already shown strength in this contest. Despite the seeding, this seems like it could be a David vs. Goliath story...but we'll just have to see how things turn out.

Gen 2 dark is all high tier pokemon for the most part. Doesn't deserve to lose to a large cunk of mediocre/bad fire types.

Pignite and the Sears are the only ones I would call mediocre/bad. Everything else ranges from decent to TOP TIER. I think it's on par with II's Dark mons, and while I could have went either way I found myself drawn more to V's Fire. Perhaps it was the literal spirit of victory that led me to tip the scales in V's favor.

Pansear, Simisear, Heatmor, Larvesta, Darumaka and Reshiram are all bottom tier, and the Tepig/Pignite/Emboar line is one of the more mediocre Fire-type starter lines. Everything from Gen II is great, meanwhile.

Tepig and the Litwick line beat out Houndoom and Murkrow for me. Volcarona is just a bonus.
