Barbieri later said that the question was rhetorical and intended to make a point.

A point about... How much he doesn't understand anatomy?

Reading the article is so fucking depressing.

Dr. Julie Madsen, a physician who said she has provided various telemedicine services in Idaho, was testifying in opposition to the bill. She said some colonoscopy patients may swallow a small device to give doctors a closer look at parts of their colon. One such device, known as a PillCam, has been successfully used after research studies including one at Stanford University in 2008.
"Can this same procedure then be done in a pregnancy? Swallowing a camera and helping the doctor determine what the situation is?" Barbieri asked.
Madsen replied that would be impossible because swallowed pills do not end up in the vagina.
"Fascinating. That makes sense," Barbieri said, amid the crowd's laughter.
The committee approved the bill 13-4 on a party-line vote

Doctor, opposing the bill: "...No. Of course not. That's fucking stupid.
Crowd: "*Literally laughs at how stupid the question was*"
Republicans: "We're going to pass the bill, anyway."

"I was being rhetorical, because I was trying to make the point that equalizing a colonoscopy to this particular procedure was apples and oranges," he said. "So I was asking a rhetorical question that was designed to make her say that they weren't the same thing, and she did so. It was the response I wanted."

Let's assume that this was the intention, why not just say that instead of "fascinating"? Seems weird to make it seem like you're just an idiot if your real intention was this.

That's the dumbest thing a politician's asked since Louie Gohmert asked the deputy chief of the Forest Service Associate if altering the moon's orbit could solve climate change.

Yeah, a response of "Fascinating, that makes sense" pretty clearly paints the picture that you... Quite literally, just learned something new.

I know that the Nazis tried to make a young girl do this by attaching her colon to her urinary tract.

There is also "persistent cloaca", a congenital disorder that naturally causes an AFAB person to be born without losing their embryonic cloaca (that is, a singular channel which the urethra, colon, and vagina all connect to), rather than having it properly separate into an anus and a vulval vestibule like it should.

It also almost always causes problems with continence and could lead to infection from cross-contamination, requires reconstructive surgery to fix, and is generally also a sign of other organs having developed abnormally during gestation (some obvious, like the usually-fatal sirenomalia [a.k.a. "mermaid syndrome", where the child's legs are fused at birth], and others less so) which can pose significant health risks in their own right. Point being, there are good reasons why women generally don't poop from their vaginas.

I miss when it was 14 year old fanfiction writers that clearly had no idea about the opposite sex's anatomy.

Now it's grown ass men who think swallowing something will have it travel to the vagina, and these people are lawmakers.
