I first heard these guys open for Qotsa way back in the day like 2018-2017 and they blew the roof off the place, but I never gave them too much of a shake until recently. I genuinely like the first two albums and a few songs on Typoons are okay, but a certain dance hall/electronic vibe and very poppy lyrics started coming in. Their latest album is off the rails, sounding like Coldplay discovered cocaine for the first time. Really bad stuff.

Anyone else listen to them? Any opinions on the genre change?

Edit: For those who haven't they started as a rather aggressive but melodic bass/drum duo with some great riffs and hooks and a very Queens style clean vocal approach, but their latest album has synths, orchestras, pianos, strings and other bullshit lol

From what I heard they were solid but because they were so limited just being a duo with no guitars they were a heard one heard em all band, which it sounds like theyve addressed but in a bad way.

This is pretty much my assessment too

didn't listen to their latest but imo they always seemed like a band that was destined to chase mainstream appeal rather than take their sound in any interesting directions

That's a fantastic way to put it. Typhoons is really when the cracks appear (All the main singles are terrible radio playtime singles.) but it still has a few good songs. Million and One or Mad Visions would have been a much more fun direction to take the sound rather than anthem choruses and synths.
