I feel like there's a miscommunication, because it wasn't even a fear of punishment. I just... Knew I had no idea what I was doing, because my parents taught me, at a young age, how complicated the oven could be, so I never felt the urge to try something I didn't know how to do. I don't know the full context, but I feel like that was Dude's point. You have to teach your kids to respect the capability of something, so that they don't just fear punishment, but they also recognize the actual danger, instead of just blaming something else.

But again, it doesn't account for all kids. You can have one kid that will take those lessons to heart and you'll have another kid who will think they know better and end up doing something dumb and getting hurt. Even raising them the same way that can and does happen. I'm sure you get how you can have different people react completely differently to any sort of situation or even explanation, kids are the same way.

As an example, when I was a kid both myself and my best friend were absolutely taught to not fuck around with fireworks. Me? I never fucked around with fireworks, I used them responsibly and by the instructions. My friend? He didn't learn the lesson until he cut open a roman candle, dumped out the gunpowder and threw a match in, except the match kept blowing out so he cupped his hand around it and then did it and poof he got severe burns on his hands and singed his eyebrows and his dad had to wipe his ass until his burns healed and let me tell you that he didn't fuck around with fireworks again after that.

Simply explaining things to kids doesn't always work, it all depends on the sort of person the kid is and how receptive they're going to be. Some kids yeah, no problem. Others? Oh, it's going to be a problem.

I get all of this, but what I don't get is where just blaming Youtube comes in. At the end of the day, you're responsible for your kid's actions, no? And, obviously, you need to adapt to how your kids learn, versus how they don't. That's an important part of parenting. I think the controversy in question was directed at parents that refuse to take accountability and instead just try to blame the internet.

My argument isn't to blame YouTube, I straight up say nobody should let their kids on YouTube in the first place. Stuff that kids should never see sneaks past the moderation all the time because Google doesn't use humans to decide what gets put onto YouTube Kids. If you let your kids watch YouTube you're making your own job just that much harder.

Then I feel like you and DudeThomas aren't actually in disagreement, since that feels like a big part of their argument, that you should be aware of what your children do and avoid letting them do things that may influence poor behavior.

I don't know, maybe I missed something. This all feels like one giant miscommunication.

Doesn't matter if it's rage bait or not. A lot of kids see them on there, same way they see then on YouTube for 5 minute crafts, try to copy them, and hurt themselves.

I'm some cases, severely. It's a matter of the platforms not taking things seriously and coming down on that content. Do you know how many people hurt themselves by microwaving eggs?

Shits crazy. Some are stupid and have no one to blame, but a lot of kids see or hear about it and try it, not knowing better. It needs to be pointed out, so platforms will actually do something. If they don't, then yeah, government agencies will end up getting involved.
This.

This feels like admitting that you were just looking for a fight instead of wanting to actually discuss anything, so I think I'll take your own advice. I guess I'm sorry I wasted my time.

In my defense, when I see somebody go "Oh well, I blocked them so I don't care to actually understand their argument," I clock out, especially when it seems like they... Weren't even disagreeing?

Seems weird to me.

The discussions pretty dead, but I'll clarify the disagreement.

No one disagrees with Dudes repeated statement. It's what I call a "feel good" statement. It's easy to say and even easier to nod "yeah". It just stating the obvious. But it assumes that parents will be able to predict every potential hazardous situation and address them accordingly. At best this a reactionary strategy, as no human, no matter how vigilant, will be able to predict every issue. It also completely hinges blind faith upon a child's ability to listen. This why his statement fails once put to the test; which is what everyone "disagreeing" with him is saying.

TLDR: Dude is stating every parent should tell their kids not to play around with fireworks. While I'm saying,"agreed" but how bout we don't allow people to sell fireworks to kids as well.

Parents don't teach common sense anymore because they can just blame the internet, and go "You clearly don't have a child if you expected me to teach them not to set things on fire!"

It's wild.

Sometimes kids are just unteachable, it always isnt on the parents. My sister is a fucking pyschopath and we were raised the same. It didnt matter what my mother did, my sister wouldnt listen to a thing she said. My mother ended up getting assaulted by her and had to have her charged.

I know people want to believe it is simple for a parent to teach their kids, but it isnt fucking simple sometimes. Some people are just born fucked up.
