That's weird we had some people talking about how the "large cast of characters" was turning off people back when they first released on the PS1 era, like with Suikoden 1, 2, and Chrono Cross.

I remember those literally being selling points and people saying they were cool and good things. I mean, I enjoyed it at least, and from what I saw on the forums back in the day regarding those titles.

They were cool for Suikoden, because you can get them all. They werent in Chrono Cross as it required multiple playthroughs.

Reviewers seem upset that the game is an old school RPG rather than making some new take on battle such as in Sea of Stars.

Thing is? This is exactly what I want, I can't put the game down. It feels just like I'm playing a Suikoden game.

Regarding load times? On PC they are great, I hear they're great on PS5 as well. It's Switch and PS4 that are the problem, I heard one person complain about PS4 but a ton complain about the Switch. Honestly I didn't even know it was available on PS4.

I despise reviewers that need every single game to reinvent the wheel.

It also doesn't help that even the characters who exist solely as a useless gimmick at your base are more interesting than the characters in Chrono Cross. That dude that only cares about baths is more interesting than everybody in Chrono Cross

Different strokes. And it can depend. I mean, with CC, you have only 3 party members, at least 1 is forced at all times, if not more, and only a handful get real development. So seems like a waste to me.

Suikoden is a little better with 6 slots but usefulness varies wildly, some slots are still for required characters, and many don't get much development. But there are some things like the army battles that make use of more characters.

A solid point. I havent played Chrono Cross, largely because the inability to grind or level up is something I dislike, and couple that with requiring multiple playthroughs to get all characters bugged me. I should probably play it someday now that the remaster is out anyway. Mods can probably help with some of that if push comes to shove.

Chrono Cross has such a fantastic soundtrack wasted on a confusing mess of a game. I probably should try it again, again lol but I just can never get into it even if I by now spoiled myself on the whole story, I barely understand that still anyway.

Just the moment to moment gameplay never did it for me and how battles are pointless and ya only get exp from beating bosses.

That is true. No lie the only two party members I even gave a damn about is glenn because of the obvious frog homage (which I totally missed on my first playthrough of the game since getting glenn required you to be a asshole towards your other main character) plus the backstory he gets with that dario dude, and duel weilding this stupid strong sword when you do that sidequest, and the other dude karsh because of his imo cool design and sharing that same backstory with the dario sidequest.

But yeah cross' many party members was lame as hell since a lot of it was just bloat like rando fisherman kid, razzle, zippy, snappy, yappy, poopy, etc. etc

Seriously though why.....why the clown skeleton and random alien?

Another issue with Chrono Cross was the leveling system. If a character wasn't in your active party their stats would end up lower so you were encouraged to basically select a part of 3 characters and never change them.

I see, yea I only ever played through CC once. I just felt like the other characters were for replaybilities sake.

I definitely enjoyed S1, S2, and S5 sadly never got to play S3 or S4 even though I know they aren't the franchise favorites (I do hear good things about S3 from time to time though)

I'm still crushing through Eiyudan Chronicle: Rise before I start 100 Heroes, but from what I've seen and heard I'm very excited to play the new Suikoden game lol
