After closing all political boards, they decided to make CE the only place where you can post anything political. They also made CE a private board that cant be accessed by new users.
And if you get purged, you will lose access to CE.

Well, they also didn't define what is and what is not considered political nor have they updated the tos and board rules so it's really up to the moderators discretion.

Mark them and they'll probably get modded.

Unless you've been terrible in the past and your MMA is so shit that they've secretly stopped letting you actually mark posts.

As the situation devolved, both DToast and another admin began handling the situation worse and worse.

Following the announcement, they made a feedback thread.

Feedback was overwhelmingly negative. Common criticisms were that the new rules were undefined, "politics" being so vague as to be impossible to ban, the politics ban adversely affecting LGBTQ+ posters, the breakup of extant social communities on other boards, and of course the slow-death-by-a-thousand-cuts for CE.

After 450 posts of everybody except STEROLIZER condemning the changes with no reply, the other admin ("Timmy" something) came back and said "we anticipated feedback to the change will be largely negative. However, we will not be revisiting the change."

They then opened a second feedback thread. When basically every post called them out for making a "feedback" thread that was confirmed by the admins to basically be a suggestion box connected to a paper shredder, DToast made a few flailing attempts to say he was taking notes to "reevaluate the situation in the future." He said that everyone accusing Fandom of not listening/caring were "bad faith posters."

Then Timmy-whoever came back and said they will absolutely not be reevaluating the situation in the future.

When accused of giving CE a death sentence, DToast said that CE will be fine because "68,000+ users can access it today." Everybody pointed and laughed at him.

When told CE was sentenced to a slow death just like LUE was, DToast said "no." No explanation, just "no."

When asked whether the site will ever see anything NEW added instead of just getting features cut and more ads thrown in, DToast said "it would be cool" (exact words) to get FAQ bounties of up to $300,000 (!!!). Everybody pointed and laughed at the absurdity of that non-promise.

400 posts into the second fake-feedback topic, after being HEAVILY pushed, both admins all-but-confirmed that CE was being punished for all the emails, doxxing, death threats, and nonsense that Tails and friends have been sending Fandom from the subreddit.

Seeing the writing on the walls, they apparently decided to NOT make a 3rd fake-feedback topic.

A day or two later, a thread cropped up on CE accusing Fandom of doing nothing but cutting/restricting features and putting in ads. DToast came in and promised he would DM the TC a document that day detailing some future plans for new features for the site. He then disappeared for days before sending a PM about one of their experiments that Fandom do. He blamed the delay on a vacation and a fried GPU.
The PM basically said that they tried to crosslink some popular guides with Fandoms wikis.
Why he couldnt just say it instead of sending a PM is because the topic had multiple bad faith users, he did however have nothing against TC sharing it.
And then he closed two topics talking about the announcement.

I have a bar at the bottom of my screen saying "This website uses cookies to enhance user experience". I never saw that before. Also, so far it has not enhanced my experience.

Probably this. My first couple years on the site I tried marking violations but never saw them get removed. Then I gave up on marking them altogether. Nothing I posted would get modded either. At least until Hillary called Donald illigitemate. Then everything about ToS enforcement changed.

Unless you're logging in every time you visit, cookies have enhanced your experience.

Of course, that particular cookie has been offering that particular enhancement for about 30 years now and has absolutely nothing to do with Fandom, but it is nonetheless an example of an enhancement cookie. I can genuinely think of no other examples, and that's why I've got NoScript locking the site down as hard as I can without actually breaking it, but there's at least that one.

Ah, yes, but as far as I know the bar stating it is new.
And I assume the cookies associated with it are new.
While I accept a cookie has enhanced my experience before I don't think this new bar or the new cookies are doing so.

Correct on all counts, as far as I can tell (I haven't actually seen the bar, but again, I've got GameFAQs locked down so hard it barely runs and that tends to suppress overlays like that). Having a statement somewhere admitting to using cookies and explaining what they do has been standard for websites for close to ten years now (I don't remember exactly what case it was that catalyzed it, but there was a big digital privacy suit that resulted in all websites having to be transparent about what data they're collecting), and I'm guessing this is just Fandom tacking on their established way of doing that instead of whatever GameFAQs had before (which is probably buried in their privacy statement).

It's likely that there are new cookies being installed, because Fandom do be like that, but I rather doubt any of the new ones will enhance the experience.

Same.

That plus running the site on Version 13 skin goes a long way to making the site tolerable. If I was forced to use the site the way the people running it intend you to use it I probably wouldn't be here at this point.

As opposed to what? V13 is the default, as far as I can tell (I did use V12 Throwback up until I was forced out of it, but that was many years ago now).
