FF7 has to be on the list. RPGs blew up after it, and it helped push the PS1 way over the N64. Not to mention the technical push forward with CG and the way the game was truly marketed out the wazoo. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I was thinking mostly in terms of story, but you're right, the RPG genre took off in its wake way harder than stealth games did. Though you might argue the cinematic thing is even bigger than RPG mechanics. I guess they're both in pretty much everything these days. --- There's a difference between canon and not-stupid. ...
