Best part is that one of the codes is a variation of the classic Konami code.

Eh..idk. I like it a lot and think it serves as a better origin story, but I've never gotten the impression it's popular amongst the community.

Which one did you play Hector and could unlock I believe Trevor. Whichever one that was my first castlevania game. It was ok... oddly the game that got me into the series was adventure on my 3ds

Curse of Darkness is probably the best 3D Castlevania. Not saying a lot, but it's something.

Edit: Got my Darknesses confused. Legacy is pretty damn bad.

What was the purpose of these codes? Were they for developers play-testing?

Most likely.
Adding cheats after playtesting is done and forgetting to release them to the public seems kinda stupid.

That was the case for thr game I mentioned. Users here only figured it out cause the game maker was interviewed and asked of there was any secrets nobody ever figured out and he gave a vague description and acted like he couldn't remember all thr details but it was a debug room. Gave a lot of money and exp then door ways to various parts od the game you'd be locked from without progressing the story.

Codes for Nintendo 64 games could take a long time to be discovered. The same thing happened with Goldeneye, even though that game also allowed cheats to be unlocked through time trials.

If I recall a bunch of codes were released by Rare on April Fools a year or two after the release of the game. Were more found after that?

Yeah, legitimate codes were released years afterward, being printed in gaming magazines and everything(remember when those were a thing?).

IIRC Rogue Squadron, which came out half a year before Phantom Menace, has a hidden Naboo Starfighter nobody discovered until after the movie came out, when the devs gave out the cheat for it.

That's pretty cool. I remember a secret screen for Kirby's Dreamland 3 boss rush doing it no damage was discovered over 2 decades after its release too.
