Things of note including stuff not in the trailer:

• Star Pieces and Shine Sprites now also unlock concept art and music to listen to
• New(?) Star Piece locations? There's some I don't remember
• Wearing the Gamecube (Nostalgic) Badge allows the original music to play
• Casino's roulette machines were changed to the SMB3 picture match game
• New Partner Ring allows for quick-switching party members in the field, much like PM64's partner switch
• Battle music has variations depending on the Chapter/area you're in
• Brand new quick-travel pipes to minimize excessive backtracking

Its amazing how small these changes are on paper, yet great in execution. A partner ring? New sprites and better lighting? It seems simple but it just looks so smooth in the trailer.

I hope they fix the pacing of Chapters 3 to 5. Cuz they were a slog

The Boo in the Pianta Parlor still has cat ears instead of bunny ears, so some changes are definitely staying.

Wonder how many new players this port will snag. If more people knew about Paper Mario (the real Paper Mario) the better.

Oh I fuck with all of this, except maybe the slots. Slot machines that are timing based make me feel like a god. Like FireRed and LeafGreen's slots.

Loaded up all my mons with good moves in every playthrough.

Edit: Actually, they removed the bunny ears from the Japanese version of the remake too. It's such a pointless change. What difference does it make if it's a cat or a rabbit?

Bunny ears implies a Playboy reference, so I guess they didn't want that kind of connotation surrounding Mario anymore.

Because it's a Playboy reference. Same thing happened years ago with the Dragon Quest VIII and Tales of Symphonia ports. People speculated it was over coypright concerns, but considering the the number of gacha games that use the design (and even DQ 11), it's probably because the sexual connotations are too overt.

Yeah I'm actually not sure. I mean it was cut from the American release so I'm not surprised it was cut from JPN.

I humbly request that we not get into the Vivian thing here. Otherwise this is going to be a quick 500 topic arguing about nothing but that. Some people argue she was trans in the original Japanese version, others say she was a femboy or the like. The important thing is that she was not a cisgender female originally, but is in the English release. Though the script was also rewritten in the Italian version to make her explicitly trans and added a bit of a character arc to it.

...it's a Boo. A floating circle with stubby arms and a tail. There's nothing sexy about giving one rabbit ears. Honestly without the full getup, I find the cat ears to be more suggestive.

Cat girls are a very popular trope in Japanland though. It's way more pedestrian than an outright playboy reference.

New pipes is the one serious change I would've made to TTYD. Glad they are doing it.

I hate Sticker Star and Color Splash as much as the next guy but the way those games looked was never the problem.

At the entrance. Previously there was only a Save block there. So if you weren't at full health when you got there, you needed to travel a ways to heal up and come back.
