It sounds bad. But those people didn't know such foods existed so they weren't missing them. There could be some delicious new food on an alien planet that humans won't discover till 1000 years from now. But we today are ignorant to missing out on it

Most Asian countries traditionally don't have cheese. Sure they got pizza hut and shit now.

I have heard that in some parts of Asia, the only cheese most people ever eat is kraft singles type stuff, and cheese flavored products. But not actual real cheese usually

They probably couldn't have eaten it, anyway.
They had no diary products, so were even more lactose intolerant than they are today (unfortunately only got some of Mesoamerica, but it's still pretty high):

Cheese tea is highly popular and uses real cheese.

I'm unsure why that is... But if you really want interesting, you want Mongolia is 95% lactose intolerant, and yet their main diet relies on dairy:

Also, kinda sad that despite being more cosmopolitan, we as a species are eating food that is becoming more and more similar over time, and that 500 years ago, going to another town would have had you eating food that micorbially was significantly more different than eating in New York, then Tokyo today.

For the guacamole they did not have limes.

Also hot chocolate, I've read, was a rich man's drink unlike today when a box of instant Abulita pacs cost under $3.

What they had was better trickle down. No one had taught them yet that you can buy labor for less than it costs to support the laborer.

I've been reading through some stuff about pre-Columbian Mexican tamales. It's common for people to act as if lard is an essential ingredient when that didn't exist for probably thousands of years of tamal consumption. The only fat they likely would have had is whatever seeped into the masa from the animal and the game animals eaten were nowhere near as fatty as the pigs today, or even the ones Spaniards brought. I don't really have a point with any of this other than it's funny how things change over time.
