No, a literal 26 year old who's younger than most people who visit this site doesn't like forums because he was too young to understand then when they were popular.

I don't think so.

This place has always had the touch of being a far more personal space than most other places due to all the work cjayc put in with his personal touch on everything.

It's always stayed relatively the same too. Maybe losing a bit of it piece by piece but the owners have always at least tried to somewhat accommodate how things have gone in the past an even build up some level of trust and have told us what has been happening for the most part. They at least tried to be somewhat reasonable.

And then it all changed when the fire nation attacked.

They thew out all previous good will, did stuff that was implied they wouldn't, and shutdown boards with no real answer. Changed the rules with no explanation etc.

Meh, I'm 25 and I was pissing about on forums when I was 15. They weren't *that* outdated pre 2015. Granted Tumblr was a lot more popular and probably where a lot of the younger folk ended up before Tiktok became a thing.

These guys can't hide behind age, it's just a dick move.

These boards have been around 2 decades, and many people started using them when they were in high school or middle school back when the internet was still new and dial up modems were the norm.

If the Gamefaqs boards close it's not the end of the world and it's a first world problem for sure but I don't think you can reduce the experience of hundreds of loyal users over 2 decades to being "just message boards."

Whatever is happening, it's not worse than the general shift in personalities that has cumulated over the last few years. You guys need to get over it and talk about things that make the site interesting, not just doom post about how you won't be able to post here by retirement age.

Worst case scenario you have to find something else to do with your time.

I think after 10 years a community on a message board might mean something to some, after 20 years this board has become a part of peoples lives where they have talked about getting married and people here remember when that person started dating their current wife.

Maybe this is a town square for some people who have know each other here for 20 years.

Pretty much the same here. It's eerily strange how similar the reasoning provided for locking down CE is to the reasoning provided for locking down LUE 20ish years ago. I'm just glad that they automatically enrolled everyone this time.

This. People are acting like they're being persecuted because now there are actual consequences to their offensive shitposting style.

Ive been coming to the Gamefaqs boards since 2000! I very rarely post but I love reading various discussions on the various boards.

It provides all kinds of differing viewpoints that I try to understand and grow from. Yes some topics are dumb but I grew as a person from seeing them.

I remember when LUE got shut down. I loved going to the contest board when the Best Character or Game contests went down and seeing the heated posts supporting or unsupporting things. I loved coming to CE and still do watching how things have changed over the years.

I will be sad the day Gamefaqs is no longer every day viewing. I now feel like the old man yelling at the clouds for how fast the world is changing.

With all this said I want to Thank all of you for sharing your world view with me. It helped me learn things I never would have known about.

Humans care about communities they are a part of, perhaps arbitrarily more than would make sense, because we're programmed that way.
