They eat like 11 meals a day, smoke weed, drink beer and don't have any gyms.

I know some are farmers and shit but you're not telling me they are all burning off those calories just by workday alone?

I think a lot of them are or at the least are chubby. Maybe Hobbits have better metabolisms so they don't get super fat outside certain ones.

And while they don't smoke weed, it makes waaay more sense that pipe weed is pot and not tobacco. Hobbits are pretty joyful, eat a lot, and love the colors red, yellow, and green.

In the book, they are all kinda fat. Hobbits are said to generally be pretty stout. That said, the Shire is an agrarian society and doing farm work every day would burn off a good chunk of that weight. Plus you're walking everywhere.

Funnily enough, contrary to Sean Astin's portrayal, Sam would probably be the most physically fit hobbit in the Fellowship. Merry, Pippin, and Frodo are essentially rich nobles who sit on their ass all day whereas Sam actually works. Frodo, in fact, is outright fat in the book. He describes himself as looking "rather flabby" and there are a few mentions of him losing weight on the trek to Mordor.

Only in the PJax movies which were uhhh somewhat loosely adapted.

In the book Gollum thinks Sam is slow and stupid, but Tolkien had too much wit to sink to calling him fat.
