Now, I understand impatience or deadlines or a variety of other notices for honking when the light turns green.

Some don't, but there are plenty that do. Especially if you're going left.

There's one near me that actually cycles the straight lanes in each direction twice between giving the left turn lanes a turn.

Do you ... not understand how an intersection works? When the cross traffic stops, your light is about to turn green...

This topic is perplexing. If someone is not going forward on a green light, it usually means they are either looking at their phone, or generally not paying attention.

I know the cycles of all the traffic lights I come across and it amuses me when I see someone trying to prepare to go when I know the light won't be changing any time soon. And then fails to notice when the light actually changes.

Errr, I think this is more on you than them. You don't need to stare at a light to notice it's changed colors. You'd have to be majorly distracted to not notice.

People who honk within 0.5 seconds of the light turning green are assholes.

But if the light has been green for 2-3 seconds and the person at the front of the line isnt moving, then they clearly arent paying attention. The honk is warranted. The rest of us dont wanna get stuck behind another red light because youre playing with your phone.

I had to stop driving because the stress of my awareness of this was just taking a constant and increasing toll. Embarrassing, but it's better than being a nervous wreck in a massive weapon.

when im a city boy again ill be ditching my car for similar reasons. idk why no one takes it seriously. doesnt help that i see fucked up wrecks every single day at work

Where I live the drivers are so bad that half the time, the traffic doesn't stop until two or three seconds after the light changes.

This topic is perplexing. If someone is not going forward on a green light, it usually means they are either looking at their phone, or generally not paying attention.

I never move forward immediately after the light turns green for the reason I posted above. Even if the intersection is clear when the light changes, I'm looking both ways just to make sure there's not an asshole flying up to run the red.

Well yeah. I live my life majorly distracted. It's near-disability level.

I can do it when something is happening (eg, when actually in motion) but I have zero chance of staring at a red orb for three plus minutes. It seems impossible that anyone could do it, honestly.

There's a difference between waiting an extra second or two to make sure nobody is badly running a red and sitting there like a jackass because one can't be bothered to keep off the phone while driving.

I give benefit of the doubt for this very reason, but it's extremely obvious when nobody else is coming through the intersection and the guy in front has clearly missed that the light has changed. And I tend to give a gentle double-toot - as in "I'm not pissed off (yet), but get going"

I think theyre referring to drivers that honk the moment the light turns green which does happen.

There's a spot by my house on my commute home every day from work. It is 4 lane intersecting another 4 lane. I have to make the right turn at the intersection. There's a sign that clearly reads NO TURN ON RED. I don't know it's there, but it's there. So I don't turn. It flips people the f out behind me sometimes because the light is on a fairly long cycle.
