If I lose my temper in public and start ranting and someone captures it on video and puts it on YouTube it's PERFECTLY FINE if my job decides to suspend me in response.

Yes, depending on the severity of your "ranting." Like if you go off on some really racist rant and it goes viral, at the very least, some of your co-workers might now be uncomfortable around you. And customers might recognize you too. It would definitely benefit a company to let someone like that go, rather than have it escalate into further problems.

If its a super bigoted rant, yeah, the company probably won't want to deal with the bullshit and your coworkers probably won't be super comfortable around you anymore.

Oh that's absolutely a fair next. You don't think it's perfectly fine to be suspended for that? She threatened trying to get the flight attendant fired because "I work for the governor." You can't use your government position like that.

This isn't about her specifically, it's about the fact I always have to keep considering what the ramifications of my actions will be if I encounter someone out in the world who pushes me to the point of a raised volume tongue lashing.

Then that means it's working. Fearing the potential consequences of your actions is supposed to be a deterrent. It really shouldn't be hard to function in public without going off on someone.

Depending on your job and position, of course. I'm not trying to bag on you or anything, but have you ever had to grow up in a collectivist environment before? If not, than I can understand why you don't get the concept.

I'm just tired of thinking that I'm always under scrutiny and that maintaining civility trumps how I actually feel.

Even now I'm coping with that sensation one feels the following morning when they went to bed with the weight of something pissing them off. I'm interacting with everyone around me in a calm and adult manner yet I feel like something inside is teetering on the verge of being rude and agitated.

We do that all the time. There's a brewery I like and when they get a bad review from a trump supporter, they put it on full blast. Often enough they will effectively ask people to talk to that person's employer to get them fired. I don't agree with the trump supporter, but it feels like it's going too far to try to get that person fired

Let me guess, customer service and/or call desk job? One thing I learned when dealing with customer service jobs is to have an outlet where you're allowed to let your anger out as you build it up during the day/week/month. Mines was buying a punching bag and letting it all out with the mock up of the person face I disliked. It will also really help to have friends/family/professional that you can share this stuff with but also make sure they're not simply "yes" people so they can call out if they feel you're out of line. Trust me when I say, I was a pretty hot head when I was young and it took me awhile to find a way to balance it out, especially when I'm in a Senior Managerial position. You absolutely though should not lash it out in public with strangers though, only bad outcomes can come out from it.
