Makes everything just more convenient. No ads, you can view more mods per page, one-click downloads and collections, and a bunch of community/forum perks. I know the speed caps they put on even the smallest downloads are a pain in the ass, meanwhile with a subscription you can download a 4GB+ mod in seconds.

Didn't mods used to be free to download, at least on NexusMods? I'm way out of the loop nowadays. It's been so long since I last downloaded a mod for a game.

They're still free technically you just get limited download speed. I think it's 2mbs?

How many mods are actually so big that they required speeds above that? I've seen mods that were like 2GB but I don't think that's that big.

Honestly, they are constantly improving and making things more and more convenient for more and more games, I'm fine with this.

Considering the amount of content they host, and the ever growing nature of modding, $9 is more than reasonable. Helps that they try to so rarely increase their price as it is.

This. I purchased the lifetime membership about 4 years ago. Whilst there are other sites to get mods from, NexusMods makes the process that much easier.

Considering the vast majority of subscribers nowadays are people who join for a single month just for the purpose of using premium for Wabbajack (myself included), I can't say I didn't see this coming.

The site is getting quite better all the time though, so I don't mind it too much tbh.

I'm just kicking myself for not getting the lifetime premium when I had the chance lol

Mostly hi res texture packs. Skyrim 2018 + 2020 is about 25GB total, and that's scratching the surface of all the texture mods I would install (A Noble Skyrim, Skyland AIO, etc)

I'm starting to want to play Skyrim again now...

That's completely different. Nexus mods is still free, but I think what people don't seem to understand is that there are server costs and labour costs involved in hosting such a website.

I really drives me nuts that people are so disassociated from reality that they think things just... happen. And that everything should be completely free.

You can continue to use Nexus for free, and for smaller mods the download speed is a non-issue.

Do people not realize just how much Nexus Mods hosts and tries to do? They have over 500,000 mods hosted, they've paid out millions over the years to mod creators, they constantly work on improving their mod manager to function with over 200 games currently, and are constantly adding both new and old games to that list.

They've done so much to let people easily mod games, its insane. The fact you can still download any of the mods without paying a thing is great; but damn, I sure as hell don't have a problem paying a small fee for faster speeds, if that helps them keep things running smoothly.

You aren't "paying for mods" with this subscription. You're paying for faster download speeds. The mods themselves are still free.

There's collections which I've seen being 100 GB itself. A Fallout 4 collection I have is just that size so i guess this makes it much faster.

They have to pay for their infrastructure somehow, so I have no issues with them having a subscription model so long as they always have an ad supported free version. I don't mind the grind of having to download mods slower and apply them directly.

For real. Even NMM I never had issues with and both are infinitely easier than having to remember how to use the popular alternatives that I forget how to work after a year of not using it.

That's only at the root level. If you go to their games first and then search, it only searches that game.

I know, but when I want to search for a specific game, I usually just go to nexusmods.com then click the search bar then change the search from mods to games. I'm just jokingly nitpicking that it would be more convenient without those extra 2 clicks.

People bitched about paid mods being there for the longest time. If they had them all behind a paywall, then the bitching would be immense. They don't. That's why people aren't really upset about this.

  1. This is optional
  2. The subscription is only for better download speeds, not mods themselves
  3. Nexus isn't getting $70 for a game and then charging $10 for a single set of fucking horse armor

Did Nexus fix whatever they did to drive modders away in the first place?

I don't quite remember what the issue was. Something about not allowing modders ownership of their files to delete or package as they wanted to?
