March. I work for a city and it along with the pledge to the Texas flag is part of the intro to city council meetings.

I view it as a waste of time same as when i was in school but im not interested in drawing attention to myself by opting out of something i ultimately dont care about.

Not American, thankfully, so never.

Pledging allegiance to a flag is absolutely bonkers to me.

Early Elementary in the early 80's. Said it before school started for the day. I was very young and didn't put much thought into it. It was just something we did at the start of the day. Didn't impact me one way or the other.

It was just something we did at the start of the day.

As a non-American I find this extremely weird. When I first became aware of American schoolchildren reciting the pledge, I assumed this was something that just happened occasionally - once a year at the start of the school year or something like that. Having them do it every day is creepy.

You're from Iowa, right? My family moved to Iowa (West Liberty) in '78 before I started 6th grade (at a middle school) and I'm positive that we never said the pledge. But maybe my memory is faulty.

I did have to recite it in elementary school while living in Arizona. Maybe it was just an elementary school thing back then? Or even now? Hell, I don't know.

Anyway . . . the last time I clearly remember saying it was in early '77 when I was in 4th grade in Arizona. I can't recall if we said it or not in 5th grade when I was living in New Mexico. That was such a horrible year. And again, I honestly don't think we did when I was in Iowa from 6th grade onward.

I also can't think of any time outside of school I ever did, but maybe I have? I'm not sure why this topic has me scratching my head so much, but it is making me question my memory.

Yes Northeast Iowa. It was only a thing though in early Elementary, like around Kindergarten to 4th grade. I remember it in 4th grade and know we didn't do it in 5th grade onward. I changed schools in 5th grade and neither school did the pledge. So it was only through 4th grade. Never did it after that.
