Is this still popular?

is new RuneScape or old RuneScape better? Which is more popular?

should I play it again? I dont have my old account anymore

last i heard it became infested with loot boxes and microtransactions while still recurring a monthly fee for most content

Yeah, I got back into it last month. And during peak hours, dozens and dozens of member worlds will easily have a 1000 players each

Is it a case where only boomers still play and everyone knows everything? Or are there actual new players as well? I havent played since like 2007 or 2008, before they added the grand exchange. I still remember a couple of things but hardly anything.

No clue. I played in 2005 and got back into it when it came to mobile lol. Then I usually come back for a couple months every 2 years or so. It wouldn't surprise me if it was mostly boomers tho

It is mostly people around the same age group as on this site playing.

When I played in 2019 i met quite a few gen z's tho. Hell apparently I could be gen z as well

Haven't seen them log in in a while tho. But I suspect many f2p players are on the younger side just based on their lingk

Osrs is more popular despite all the bots inflating playercount a tad bit. Based on how many views osrs content gets compared to rs3

Old School would be the way to go. Runescape 3 is borderline dead now and infested with microtransactions. It would be nigh unrecognizable to someone who quit in 2008.

Old School was launched in 2013 in response to player backlash over microtransactions and the combat system overhaul in RS3. It has its problems, but is still quite popular, and mostly faithful to the "spirit" of RS2 as it was in 2007/2008.

It's probably only available for modern Runescape. They rebooted oldschool Runescape a decade ago and everyone had to start fresh there

It is still popular. OSRS is more popular than RS3.

Also the fish per hour is high because i was 3 ticking
Normally it is around like 850 fish an hour

May have to look into the 3 ticking method. Have done Barbarian Fishing, but only the AFK type.

are "pures" still a thing?

Someone who gets very high archery or magic, and low everything else (so as to keep their combat level low). so when they go into the wilderness and you fight them they look like a lvl 30 but have something like lvl 80 magic and 1 shot you

Ya they are still a thing!

I heard they fixed calculating the combat level where it'll still be high even if you completely neglect some of the other stats. Is that true?

I think the combat level formula is the same as it's always been, and pures are very much still a thing.

Do people run pures just to jump scare people in the wilderness with a fire surge spell coming from like a level 60 character? lol

wilderness isn't that popular, it's really about the PVP worlds

at this point the vast majority of players are well aware of pures and a good majority of them have pures of their own so there is no surprise factor now lol

You can buy bank space too but it's pretty expensive. I think 40 spaces are 1 mil, and then it doubles in price for the next 40 like 8 more times

I dont blame you >_> Literally all of my farming and hunting exp has been from quests and Tears of Guthix. Hunting and farming is so boring

yeah I didn't train farmer and hunting yet lol, just quest rewards

I just want to do quests to get barrows gloves and do combat stuff hehe

I'm at like 154 or 155 quest points so I'm not far off from 175

leveled up to 83 hunter but i was only like 30k away from it initially

ended up getting 132k hunter xp in an hour w/ black salamanders using 5 traps. ill try using 6 traps later.

holy shit this skill is annoying i feel like i cant multitask while doing this lol

Just curious, but did you have any problems with PKers with hunting Black Salamanders in the Wildy? Just curious how you handled them and what teleports you used to get to/from the Black Salamanders.

As for speculation, I don't have the Hunter level yet, but I imagine Dinh's Bulwark + Karil Top/Bottom would be good to have to be able to tank them long enough to logout/teleport away.

I saw a few pkers but none targeted me. My combat level is 106 so any mid level 80s to 125 could've attacked me.

I walked to the sport from the GE shortcut lol. If I were to be attacked I'd just let them kill me tbh. I wouldn't lose anything if I drop all the nets, rope, and black salamanders (I am dropping the salamanders once my inventory gets full anyways). I'm only wearing a spottier cape and boots of lightness for their weight reduction.

Your set up might be ideal for black chinchompas though. Haven't tried those yet but ik you can make like 100m from them when going for 99.

i have 160 quest points atm

82/164 quests done so halfway finished based on quest count lol

I play current Runescape (also sometimes called "Runescape 3"). My account is 21+ years old, but I have taken hiatuses and there's a lot of content I haven't tackled yet.

All that being said, I recommend it over Old School. There's a lot more content these days, plus good quality of life improvements. There was some outrage over MTX, but realistically the MTX is not any worse than anything you'd see in literally any other MMO. The most recent offensive thing was a sort of Season Pass that you could buy in to, but the community backlash was so extreme they said they were never going to do it again.

But yeah, there are other skills to explore too like Necromancy and Archaelogy that aren't in Old School at all, and other quests.

But happy to answer any questions you have (that I can... like I said, there's a ton I haven't done, especially bossing).

runescape 3 is alright, but i don't like it as much. my character from runescape 2 transferred to 3, and then i had to start over at tutorial island when i logged into osrs. idk if there is a way to get around that.

There is no way around it. Runescape (Runescape 3) is the direct continuation of the original Runescape (Classic).

Old School is a separate branch derived from a 2007 build the devs found. You have to make a new character but can use the same account for both games.

ok damn i got killed by a level 116 pker as i was walking back to the salamander's spot

i moved low enough in the wild so he couldn't attack me but i got poisoned by his cross bolts or arrows and succumed to that. lol

i used to play rs3 and quit after i got hacked and my bank lost its entire worth. my bank would be worth around 300b these days because i had an almost complete party hat set (just missing green) + some extra other rares. can't go back after that it hurts!!!

got 84 hunter

with 6 traps i was averaging 146k xp an hour

also my run energy got down to like 10% before realizing that i should be dropping the salamanders while running to the next trap since they actually weigh a lot lol. run energy was now increasing rather than decreasing after that.

ill try to get 85 hunter later today im probably gonna sleep soon

Runescape is still huge in 2024, but I don't fucking know how. I didn't think it was cool 20 years ago..

it kinda makes me feel good to level up in this game lol.

can hyperfocus on it too though atm it's weak but it gets stronger over time as i play more. im hoping it doesn't get too bad for me though like last time
