I did the Fight Caves and beat TzTok-Jad!

By doing so, I got myself a Fire Cape! It looks amazing!

I had to fight him four times until I beat him. Never died to any of the 62 waves before Jad, who you fight on Wave 63 of the Fight Caves. First 2 times I died due to inexperience with prayer switching and nerves. Then I found out you can actually go to a Speedrunning World, do the Beneath Cursed Sand Quest, teleport to the Fight Caves, present your Fire Cape to the guy to let you into the inner city, and get to practice on the harder version of Jad.

If you are interested in practicing (the harder) Jad to not have to run through 62 waves only to die to Jad unceremoniously on Wave 63 in the Fight Caves, here is the method better explained.

After I beat JalTok-Jad (the harder Jad) 3 times in a row, I went through the Fight Caves again, started to fight Jad...and blew it within the first 3 attacks. Somehow I mistook Ranged for Magic (twice in a row) due to nerves and died again.

Wasn't happy about that, but I got a good night's sleep, practiced JalTok-Jad (the harder Jad) again until I could beat him repeatedly, and I tried again for the 4th time.

Got through 61 waves, logged into a speedrunning world, practiced JalTok-Jad (the harder Jad) again, logged back in, completed Wave 62, and started Wave 63 with Jad in a safe spot. I filled my Toxic Blowpipe with Dragon Darts as I used Amethyst Darts for most of the cave. Brewed up, drank Super Restores, and drank a Ranging potion to boot. Then turned on Protect from Ranging, Tough Skin, and Eagle Eye and attacked him.

I made no mistakes and prayer flicked correctly. I got above him (north of him) so I could easily attack the healers when they showed up and drag them back to the safe spot south of him to kill them. They showed up, I attacked 3 of them (1 was stuck in the safe spot), and I dragged them back with me to the safe spot where I killed all 4 of them. Jad had barely been healed during all of this, and I recognized that the Toxic Blowpipe had successfully envenomed Jad! Being a boss, I didn't think he was susceptible, but he most definitely is. I waited a little bit for some free damage to kick in, and then healed up and turned back on my prayers and went in for the kill...

I made no mistakes and beat him! YES!

Feels great to finally beat Jad. Never had an account with high enough ranging level to try back in the old Runescape days (back in the 2000's). Glad to finally beat him!

I only got my first (real) fire cape a couple months ago, after almost 18 years of playing. I beat Jad previously several times over in leagues (with the help of insane leagues buffs), which finally gave me the practice and confidence I needed not to screw it up for real.

What's crazy is how quaint Jad seems now with there being even more insanely difficult PvM content. Like, I know I'll never beat the Inferno.

I don't know how people do it. so much content now has you dead after just one split-second mistake.

do we not drop items anymore after death outside of pvp zones? i witnessed this guy die from a bandit and was hoping i could nab some gp :( but after a few mins of waiting nothing showed up

Yeah, you dont really loot graves or player death anymore. The new system has gold sink built into it and has more leniency than early RS but nothing like how RS3 progressed either at one point. Angel statue grave used to be the best one and gave you like an hour to get back to your grave in RS3.

I strongly recommend the speed running practice "hard" Jad strategy in the link. Saved me likely many failed runs, many hours, and lots of prayer/sara brew/super restore potions.

As for other PvM, I am planning to kill the Kalphite Queen once for the Desert Hard diary. You can walk under her to stop her attacks while you heal, so it doesn't look too hard. Abyssal Bludgeon + Toxic Blowpipe should do her in nicely.

I did look into the Inferno and having to face multiple "harder" versions of Jad at once seems like quite the undertaking (and that's not saying anything about Zuk). Seems like an Endgame type of challenge when you have at least a Bowfa + Crystal Armor setup (although Twisted Bow would be preferred, but 1.7 billion seems insane to get). May try it when I have much better combat stats than I have now.

As for other harder bosses, I know the raids have really difficult fights. I haven't tried any of those, but I do want to at least do entry level Tombs of Amascut to get a 4 slot rune pouch. Should be interesting!

Yeah, that surprised me too. iirc back in the mid-00s if you died, you lost all but 3-4 of your items. Now they just get stored in a gravestone or Death Office where they can safely be picked up

Dont use Veracs set, use a crush weapon and blowpipe with some gear switching. Blowpipe alone with eagle eye or rigor are amazing. You may want defense reduction spec though, like Bandos Godsword or Dragon Warhammer. Im also down to help if you need it. I can stand around in tank gear or whatever to help reduce damage.

That is my plan A. The Toxic Blowpipe chipped down Jad in the Fight Cave surprisingly quickly, and with the Kalphite Queen having less defense, I imagine her phase 2 should go down quickly.

You may want defense reduction spec though, like Bandos Godsword or Dragon Warhammer.

I actually did look into both options. I don't have high enough attack to use the Bandos Godsword. Dragon Warhammer is something I can use, but it is expensive at 34M. Is a great weapon for bossing though. Will consider picking it up if I run into difficulties.

As for me, regarding killing the Kalphite Queen, I guess the game "thinks" I did it, although it didn't feel very satisfactory how it happened. I'll explain.

First time I went at her, I underestimated her damage output, and couldn't even teleport away before I died. Darn. Had to pay a hefty fee to Death to get my equipment back. Apparently her Ranging/Magic attacks always hit unless you pray again one of the two, hence her irregularly high damage output.

Second time I came back to her cave, I fought her again and was a bit more prepared...I managed to get her out of her Phase 1 ground phase and into her Phase 2 air phase and did my gear switch to Ranging. However, her damage output overwhelmed me again, but I managed to teleport away before dying. My guess is I did 1/5th to 1/4th of the 2nd Phase's life.

Third time I went at her, I realized by now that the Kalphite Queen appears to retain the damage dealt to her and thus I put my Melee equipment away and came back with a pure ranging setup, and indeed she was still in her Phase 2. I did some damage to her, but she got two lucky high damage ranges with her ranged attack (I have been praying magic) and I died a second time. Luckily my ranging gear that I lost didn't cost that much, so Death's fees weren't too high to get back. Maybe 30-40k.

Thus, I was preparing to go back and fight her and finish Phase 2...and something interesting happened. The game said I had fulfilled the requirements for part of the Hard Diary...the killing the Kalphite Queen part. I'm still not 100% sure of what happened. I went back into the cave and noticed that there was a 250 rune arrow drop (and sharks IIRC). I didn't bring rune arrows, and I noticed specifically 250 rune arrows are part of the Kalphite Queen's drop table, so she must have died...but I didn't see it happen. I can only think of 2 ways it could have happened...

1. She died to the Toxic Blowpipe's venom status effect. This is possible, but I could have sworn she still had a fair amount of health on her second phase, so this is unlikely. Also not sure if she can be envenomed.
2. Another player popped in an finished her off. When I was looking for a world to fight her solo, I went through a few with people fighting her. Must be a popular activity.

#2 is the most likely scenario. As I did the majority of the damage to her, defeating her Phase 1 and dealing a fair amount of damage on Phase 2, I guess I got the drop, and thus was registered as getting the kill.

Anticlimatic, but if the Diary says I killed the Kalphite Queen, who am I to argue with it? Now I just need to complete 3/4 of the Desert Diary, as I have all the level requirements for Easy, Medium, and Hard levels. Hard boss alright. Will have to come back and get a more legit kill on it when I have better stats.

I only bring 28 bones as whenever I have brought more in the past the PKer's get me. I bring a 3 piece armor set, which is a crystal shield and blessed d'hide. Would bring a Dinh's bulwark, but I don't have the stats for the Dinh's.

Usually allows me to finish 28 bones. However, last time I did brought noted bones to the chaos altar, some almost maxed level guy hit me with 2 Dragon Claws special attacks and I died instantly. Dang. Glad it just happened 1/10 times last time I was leveling prayer. Usually the trips are uneventful or I tank the damage until I pray all the bones away and then die, go back to Edgeville and repeat.

and yeah, KQ is such a busted boss. Just shits out constant unrelenting unavoidable dps. A pain in the ass just to get to, and you only get like 1-3 kills per trip. And you might need up to 256 kc just to complete elite desert diary (only then do you unlock the shortcut. thank god I got lucky).

Keris Partisan (reward weapon from Beneath Cursed Sands quest) really helps with Phase 1. Also might wait until you get a kalphite slayer task, to take advantage of the +15% damage boost from slayer helm.

Excellent advice. Having to kill her that many times for the Elite Desert Diary sounds horrible. Already have to do it a bunch for Combat Achievements. Having a slayer task + the Keris Partisan sounds like a good idea. Add in a Dragon Warhammer Special * 2 and higher stats, and it should be a lot more manageable in the future.

I think I was able to hit about 130 when I did KQ during a slayer task with keris partisan activated spec and piety. Used gear like dhide top, bandos tassets, fury amulet, ring of suffering, barrows gloves, slayer helm, dragon defender, and other stuff. I didnt have the gem for the keris either. This was back when I had like 90s for combat skills.

Don't bother with noted bones at all. Only take a locator orb to kill myself quickly and fill the rest with superior dragon bones. Not the fastest but less risk and more simple which is good enough for me.

The Achievement diaries help out a lot once you get to the higher tiers. Easy generally requires skills at lvl 30~, Medium requires skills at ~50, Hard requires skills at ~70, and Elite requires skills at ~90

The quest requirements got me scared. I'll do them after I get 99 all skills though. That way I won't have the urge to grind stuff as much.
Though tbh my longterm goal is 1b xp but IK some of the best training methods are locked behind quest and diary related stuff.

K i'm glad the mechanic has changed. I would have lost like 3m cash stack, some sara brews, and my Rogue's outfit if it weren't for the gravestone.

Edit: Holy shit sara brews rose up to 15401 gp. I was buying them low 13000s gp for the past few days.

I did the Perilous Moons quest and I fucking died like 4 times to the Blood Moon boss. That was is so intense and annoying with the constant healing >_> Fuck that boss

I would at least knock out hard diaries. Theres solid QoL from them, plus the xp from quests and diaries helps more the earlier you snag it. All the diaries came out before the push for more difficult quests so none of the hard ones are required for them.

Yeah the healing seems overtuned for a midlevel boss. The fact that it used to heal even more is wild. Still solid content overall though.

Yeah, achievement diaries make some skilling way easier. Like Ardougne's hard diary gives you a 10% boost to pickpocketing anywhere, and Kandarin's medium gives an exp boost to Maple Tree cutting in Seer's Village. You definitely should knock them out when you can. The Quest Helper plugin makes it way easier to do them too

Most diary reward equipment offer really useful teleports too. (though often you need to complete the elite tier to unlock unlimited teleports, instead of just 3 or 4 per day)

Besides level and quest requirements, some diary tasks are just a big pain in the ass (chompy-hunting for western provinces hard/elite, bones-to-peaches for Lumbridge hard, KQ head for Desert elite)

Chompy hunting is so annoying for the western diary. Elite requires 1000. wtf
