I would join as a Medic/Doc. Doesn't matter which branch, but at my Age reserves are it.

I was pretty close to doing army ROTC in college then decided I didn't think I had what it took to possibly be responsible for giving an order that got soldiers killed.

So I focused on music and gamefaqs instead

If you mean the gay jokes, then yes and no. My Grandfather tells me back in the Navy Core days during WWII it was more common for officers to have relations than enlisted men. Most enlistees are just trying to increase their station. And get this: a lot of the gay officers were actually married men with kids.

Any forced sexuality on grounds will get your butt insta court marshalled. Just a heads up. If you're looking for a boyfriend or partner, it's gotta happen off ship.

Everyone here picking Airforce cause they think they'll avoid on ground combat. EVERYONE gets deployed. Lol.

Actually, not quite It depends. Ive been in since 2009. And havent deployed. Nor do I really want to. I was an alternate for half a deployment, but didnt have to go. That said, Id just be fixing jets, or doing debrief So, no ground combat

Also, there are ways out of it, though Finding loopholes is like something that happens all the time

I feel like joining the air force has the lowest chance of being killed in combat, like very few people in that branch become pilots, most of them are just mechanics or other support

Youd have to be an officer to be a pilot

What I meant to say is that every branch gets deployed. But what you're saying sounds correct, as long as your ASVAB was high enough.

I wasn't aware that being deployed was synonymous with seeing ground combat.

Yeah. All of them deploy And its true the ASVAB will show what youre qualified for Which could end up being a job that deploys more, sees combat, or both

I think I know what they were trying to say. But you are correct that deployment does not mean ground combat My co-workers in my field deployment very often, and most of never seen combat

Space Force is just Air Force. Just Trump's fever dream of making a branch
More specifically, Air Force Space Command (for those who didnt know). Older organization, just restructured by the king of bankruptcy.

Being deployed is synonymous with being boots on the ground in a potentially targeted facility. Youre far less likely to see combat than GI, but from my understanding it still qualifies as you serving in that combat theatre.

Im hoping to clarify, but Im also just a civvy who lives in Military City. Someone more qualified please feel free to correct me.

My original military goal was West Point, or at least thats what people wanted me to do. Then the thought was Marines since it seemed to fit, but I sat on the idea throughout my early to mid 20s and never tried to make it happen.

Curious sometimes where those two paths would have taken me, but all you can do in life is stay still or move forward; cant ever go back.

I dont know where youre at in life, but I wouldnt recommend where I am. So if youre doing even remotely decent, probably consider yourself lucky for your choices.

It's pretty normal for the Army and the Marines to dunk on the Air force, Coast Guard, Space Force and sometimes the Navy.

Even anime does it.

I joined the Air Force because I didn't qualify for the Army or the Marines. I scored too high on the ASVAB.

"Deployment" varies from branch to branch and ... well, deployment to deployment. A person can deploy to a unit supporting some operations away from home station but still not be at any significant risk.

Deploying is a catch all term for a variety of things.

I've 'deployed' to Kuwait but never left the base effectively. Another time I deployed to Kuwait but actually went out into the city.

But other people have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and been blown tf up. Hit with IEDs, artillery, rockets, you name it.

But on paper, we've both "been deployed".

The big distinguisher for the Army is supposed to be if it allows you to wear the unit patch on your right shoulder sleeve (you wear your current unit patch on your left shoulder sleeve) after you've deployed. But in true Army fashion, you can get those for being attached to a detachment of a unit that happened to be in a high risk area. Never having been a part of said unit or seen any danger yourself.

I wouldn't worry too much about being deployed until you're being deployed and know the actual situation on ground (which can change at anytime)
