I would see it as a little kid and I never understood wtf it was about.

The lady with spiky blue hair was cute, though.

I feel similar. I remember watching it and I remember liking it, but I couldn't tell you exactly what was going on besides Tenchi being dorky around girls. Of course it's been almost 25 years since I've seen it, but I don't think I got it at the time either.

Nothing. It was about nothing.

It was rebooted a good dozen times and it was always the cast just faffing about after whatever contrivance brought them together.

Tenchi was the 4th of the Big 4 of Toonami with DBZ, Gundam Wing, and Sailor Moon...

The original series was great but the long delayed conclusion came out years later and was awful...

Tenchi Universe is the best series and timeline, its not as risque as the original series but it hilarious and has the two good movies in its timeline (The Movie, and Tenchi Forever)

Tenchi in Tokyo is the weird one and not as bad as many say but its the weakest of the 3 Toonami shows...the weird animation and that certain girl almost ruin the series but the ending is pretty good...

Never bothered with the newer shows after Rho-Ohki 3 except for AI Tenchi Muyo which brought back many of the former VAs from the original dub...

I remember there were several versions, Tenchi Muyu, Tenchi in Space, Tenchi in Tokyo ect ect. All of them having the same characters but meeting under different scenarios.

I thought it was all about ecchi so I kinda watched it when my family wasn't around. Then I remember in one episode in Tenchi in Space, there was a fight and Tenchi did some awesome transformation with some glowing sword and cut some guy in half along with the whole spaceship. Kinda caught me off guard there and was pretty hyped. Never again did i see another episode where he did that lol.

Edit: I still remember Ryoko's name, the spiky blue haired girl for some reason.

Also why did Anpanman never come over? I can understand Doraemon, because it is super Japanese, but Anoanman is pretty basic and extremely marketable,

Probably because the Tenchi series had multiple Alternate Universes, and Toonami jumped right in airing like 3 of them in a short span of time (Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo). A few years later, they then aired some of the movies, some of which were also AU based.

This was definitely my hurdle when it came to watching it. It was a fun enough show to watch when I had nothing better to do, but the constant rebooting made it hard for me to feel like there was an overarching plot.

With DBZ, even if I missed a few episodes, it was easy to follow what was going on because of recaps and the straightforward vibe of the story. I never felt lost watching DBZ.

I literally had no fucking idea what was going on in Tenchi Muyo at any given time, and even when I thought I did, I was wrong, so I never got invested.
