MIAMI A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old turned them in to authorities after they were reportedly caught on video last Sunday throwing trash into the ocean, officials said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said that two people were seen on video emptying garbage cans full of trash into the Atlantic Ocean before going back to Boca Bash, WTVJ reported. Boca Bash is an unsanctioned boating party off the coast of Boca Raton, about an hour north of Miami. The video has since gone viral, according to CBS News.

Both teens are facing a third-degree felony charge, according to WPTV. That charge is for causing pollution so as to harm or injure human health or welfare, animal, plant, or aquatic life or property. The charge comes with up to a $50,000 fine or up to five years in prison, according to WTVJ.

The illegal dumping of trash in our marine environment is a serious crime, and we worked closely with the Palm Beach County State Attorneys Office to determine appropriate charges, said FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto, according to the news outlet. Callous disregard for Floridas environment will not be tolerated. This is a teaching moment for all those involved -- Floridas natural resources are precious, and we should all do our part to protect them.

FWC officials said they are working with the Palm Beach County State Attorneys Office on the charges, according to WPEC.

The Florida State Attorneys Office has about 30 days to decide if it will try the two teens as adults, WPTV reported.

Florida Litter Law says that anyone who dumps over 15 pounds of trash into a body of water is guilty of first-degree misdemeanor, WPEC reported.

What is a third-degree felony in Florida? Under Florida law, a third-degree felony is the least severe class of felonies but still a step above misdemeanors. Third-degree felonies can result in a maximum of 5 years imprisonment and a $5,000 fine, as outlined in Florida Statutes Chapter 775.

This is all just me making assumptions, but I would think "Boca Bash" is a drinking party, and that most of this trash is beer cans and liquor bottles, and since these teens are underage, they were probably paid or compensated with booze to go out and dump everything.

Most people would have been horrified if they knew how much shit went in the Ocean back when I was in the military. As soon as we were more than 50 miles from shore we always dumped all trash overboard. We didn't dump plastic but everything else went. We also pumped all of our bilges which is full of water, fuel, oil, and just generally everything liquid from the engine rooms and associated operating rooms.

And when we refueled the amount of fuel that went in the Ocean was massive. We had a what was called a seawater compensating system for our fuel on my ship. The fuel tanks were always 100% full of liquid, it just was a matter of how much was fuel and how much was seawater.

So as we refueled and fuel went in the tanks it would push seawater out over the sides. We had these fuel stations aft, midships, and forward of the ship. The closer they got to full you would start to see the water turn a little bit brown and once it went full "iced tea" over the sides it was 100% fuel and you knew the tank was full visually.

Our Captain always wanted to make sure we were 100% full so he didn't want us to stop taking on fuel until we were 100% spraying fuel over the sides from aft, midships, and port. We would leave a trail of fuel for miles in the ocean. We did this every 3 days. I was the one up on the fuel station running things and making the call when to stop receiving fuel from the supply ship.

Now sure this was back in the 90's but I know it still goes on today. This was just a portion. There was equipment, tools, all kinds of shit.

Someone clearly doesnt believe in rehabilitation

being caught with a weed pen in Texas is a felony. Should someone who simply owned a weed pen have their right to vote taken from them?

True enough, we should punish corporate polluted way more harshly. I think executives in general should face jail time for corporate violations instead of just company fines. The stakes need to be much higher.

I also think this being a felony is a bit severe.

Nah, it should absolutely be a felony. We absolutely need to punish corporations more, yes, but that doesn't mean we need to lessen the penalty on other people willingly doing it, too.

That's up to Texas.

I believe in rehabilitation, but also think that there should be lasting consequences for serious crimes. Also

Maybe there should be a road to reobtaining those rights eventually, but I don't personally have any issue with those consequences as a deterrent.

So youre okay with Texas taking someones right to vote away forever just for possessing a weed pen. Dawg thats kind of fucked up.

Also your link actually hurts your argument more than it helps. Our prison system is horribly fucked up and does not seek to rehabilitate.

So you agree that felons should never have to pay taxes ever again?

Also you can't say you believe in redemption while also approving of our prison systems working the way they do.

Throwing that word out randomly (And incorrectly) doesn't work as well as you'd hope.

No taxation without representation. If you committed a felony 50 years ago, never did anything bad ever again, and you STILL can't vote?

Why should you have to pay taxes?

Your recidivism rates are horrible because your system is not set up to rehabilitate. It's set up to punish, isolate, and basically encourage recidivism to keep your slave labor and for profit prisons stocked.

Taking voting rights away is not a deterrent. It's a way of isolating and excluding people from important aspects of society.

(the gun thing I don't care about since those are actually dangerous weapons and your country has far too few gun rules as it is)
