They just killed the arcade kid. Wow. That was pretty dark for a show that's been fairly happy go lucky.

It's been actually pretty decent. Dark Tournament had a bit better pacing and engaging but this isn't so bad.

Dark Tournament really is the best arc, but Chapter Black is pretty good. The final arc needed a little more work.

Indeed. If I had a complaint about this arc so far besides the pacing, it'd be that it hasn't really shown much in the main team growing in power, but I guess that's kind of the theme of this arc? As Yusuke said, if Toguro was a fast baller then this main villain is all about the curve ball and I guess it applies to the arc as a whole.

The biggest problem I have with it is that I have a very hard time seeing most of the Seven as credible threats.

Like, after the Dark Tournament, Kido, Yanagisawa, Seaman, Sniper, and Doctor should be absolute fodder. The fact they aren't instantly speedblitzed and KOd is silly.

And to be fair, some of them are... but the fact that Sniper can fuck with them the way he does is ridiculous considering he's basically just a regular dude.

Things were at their best when the crew were dealing with things that their powers couldn't help with. Kaito and Gamemaster were the most interesting challenges in the whole arc.

Yeah I could see that. I could almost see this arc as maybe being better placed before the dark Tournament if a few details were changed.

Chapter Black was an otherwise great arc, but it goes downhill towards the end, and the rest of the series suffered from it.

Indeed, one of the reasons the arc got poor ratings on Toonami is because most of the antagonists felt like such a downgrade from the previous arc. Yusuke and co were fighting super strong demons in the Dark Tournament and now they're fighting some random humans who'd instantly get killed if not for plot-induced stupidity. All of the "psychics were lame as hell.

And of course, the ending of the arc ruins the whole series.

Yeah, it was funny how the whole thing with Genkai's students was to teach Yusuke's group that there would be challenges that brute strength could not get them through, but that ended up only being true for Gamemaster.

Also, the BS way they get out of the situation with Doctor really does a disservice to the story.

I get it. Yusuke has never killed a pureblood human being before, and we have to give him the good-hearted-anime-boy thing. But honestly? He should have killed him. He should have been forced to kill him to save lives, and struggled with the choice for the rest of the arc. Forces him to content with Sensui's philosophy because he's sentenced a monster to death for the "greater good." Then it can come to a head with Gamemaster, when they have to make the same choice with a less sinister target. They do. And now they aren't so removed from Sensui's grand plan. And yusuke's teetering on a moral event horizon.

I love how much they say bitch in this anime lol. Which isn't a lot per se but I feel like a lot more than any other animes I've seen
