My brake lights won't turn off. I've changed my grommet, it did explode when the problem started, I also changed the switch behind the brake itself, I even used the other grommet that came in the pack.

It just seems kind of improbable my grommet would explode, but then it'd be another issue on top of that all occurring at the same time.

Internet is saying it could be a bad brake pedal, but that thing is pretty tight. Wiring could be another issue, but again, what are the odds that the grommet would break and the wiring would go out at the same time?

Every time this happens to me it's usually because of the switch but you seem to have checked it already. Could it be a short?

If your brakes are in perfect working order and you know this for a fact then the problem is the computer.

It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

The amount of times I've seen the "word grommet" in my life has doubled.

But no I can't help.

I had this happen about a month ago. My car is old enough to have the end of the brake sensor to not touch anymore.

I first tried fuses, computer. But all I had to do was screw the sensor in more to make contact with the break arm. It's supposed to be compressed when not pushing the brake.

Man, I'm pretty annoyed that this was the issue, the sensor just wasn't in tight enough. Locked it in place and it worked great.

Thank you everyone for helping. Wallace approves.

Did either of you have a Chevy? My impala had that exact problem for like 2 years before I figured it out

Na, Infiniti for me.

So it seems like it's an easy to fix with most cars, as we have Nissan, Toyota, and Chevy all dealing with it.

Hope this helps someone in the future. Just change the grommet and then make sure the sensor is in properly if you change it.

Yup. You gotta watch out for that, it usually makes a subtle click sound. As an electrician, I've made it a habit of slightly pulling on it to check to see if it was on right.

I'm glad we saved you a trip to AutoZone for a free troubleshooting diagnosis. Which sounds nice in theory, but, man, some of their employees know less than the average car-owner.
