Grey for sure. Theatre too.

Not really a spelling thing but I like how Brits say penchant more than the way Americans do.

Grey is much better. No doubt. Some stuff is atrocious though. Like programme. Or manoeuvre.

I like the ones already mentioned. Grey, theatre, look better. I like honour as well, although oddly enough, colour looks weird to me.

British spellings are the norm here, but I almost universally prefer (and use) American ones. I do still tend to use the local pronunciations where differences exist though, likewise for situations where the whole word (rather than just the spelling) is different.

"Draught" annoys the hell out of me. If you're going to spell it like that then you should pronounce it "draoukht."

All the dumb French ones with U are stupid too, they were spelled -or in Latin then the French put in a u because they were drunk and wanted longer vowels or something, then the Brits insisted that this was the best spelling ever but at the same time as hating the French.

Literally the worst thing ever is when Americans say or write "an historical." If you are pronouncing that H, then there is zero reason that you should be putting an "an" before it. Coffee is for closers, and an is for vowels. Even Brits that have an H-less accent probably don't say it, I can't really imagine them saying "I'm going to the 'at store to buy an 'at." But I could be wrong.

Neither the British nor the US spellings are 'dumb'. It's just what you're used to.

Complaining about 'draught' when everybody is fine with 'thought', worrying about a few extra 'u' here and there, or getting upset because they're not . . . nonsense, really.

succour
theatre
judgement
archaeology
moulder

I'm generally okay with lots of British Engish stuff, but never really liked extra vowels in medical terms (apnoea, oestrus, etc.).

As an American: grey, theatre, and archaeology.

I actually greatly dislike the use of "silent" u's, and I think that Webster's greatest contribution to the English language was the elimination of those letters from various words (i.e., armour, colour, honour, etc..).

Generally I've seen this too (and honestly, even agree with the distinction), but I find that in common parlance that the two are so interchangeable that they might as well just be the same dang thing.

'Draught' is pronounced as 'draft.' Don't know why 'thought' would be a comparison here.

It's just another 'ght' word.

Maybe 'laughed' would be better.

Do actual British people still use the first meaning? "Draughts" in that sense is very much a boomer word here in NZ (which does tend towards British English), younger people would just call it checkers.

Despite my username, I exclusively use "grey" when I write the word. I also didn't even know that "judgement" wasn't normally spelled with that -e in the middle of the word in America. Writing out "theatre" does feel a bit hoity-toity though.
