Once they've been diagnosed they are more likely to die and die faster than non-Black women.

"We always say cancer affects everyone, but it doesn't affect everyone equally," said Alpa Patel, a senior vice president at the American Cancer Society.

To understand why, the American Cancer Society Tuesday is launching the largest-ever study of cancer risk and outcomes in Black women.

The Society, which has run other large, long-term studies over the last 70 years, aims to enroll more than 100,000 Black women between the ages of 25 and 55 who are cancer-free and follow them over three decades. They are focusing enrollment in 20 states and the District of Columbia areas where the majority of Black American women live.

$20 says it's because cancer is rarely caught early, leading to increased mortality.

They need better insurance, access to preventative care, and to not be actively penalized at their place(s) of employment for getting preventative care.

Weird my wife died while giving birth to our 2nd son and she's white.

I think it has more to do with they get the check up and then they don't go back after. You know how I know, next door is a older black lady with cancer and she refuses to go through chemo for it.

the study will show:

-having less money = having more cancer
-poor diet = more cancer
-bias against black ppl in the medical field
-bias against women in the medical field

black people have also historically been under treated for pain, so who knows other disparities in the medical field might lead to death in cases like that.

There was a report back when covid was first starting that said if you're black you're more likely to die if you caught it. I don't how accurate that report turned out to be.

Less nutritious food
Higher obesity rates

All of these are linked to cancer. Have a population where theres an increased rate for all of these and its no wonder.

But for 3 minutes she legally was dead.

I don't think you realize this or not but cancer doesn't give a fuck what your skin tone is. While I went through chemo from 2018-2021 I saw people from a whole bunch of different races fighting against it. You have to want to go through that shit to do it. Some people don't want to do that, like my neighbor who as she puts it "to old to worry about it". If she or anyone else wants to give up on it, that's on them.

But to say it picks them more because color is bullshit

You're making broad generalizations about an entire race because of your neighbor. This is why studies are done, so we can get evidence-based answers on why certain demographics are more at risk than others.

It doesn't "pick them" more becasue of their color, it's just that they are more likely to either 1) Go without diagnosis or treatment becasue they can't afford it, or 2) the areas they live in are too poorly funded to give them the treatment they need.

It's not about BEING DIAGNOSED, it's about what happens AFTER the diagnosis.

Both of my parents died of complications due to Covid back in 2020.

You should've seen the shock on my face when I heard the mortality rate in Covid patients 70 and over wasn't 100%, considering it was 100% for me.

Black women have an intersectionality issue with medicine.

Women are very often not listened to regarding their own medical issues, just cookie cutter bullshit.

Meanwhile, black people have shit where huge swaths of professionals legitimately believe they don't feel pain like everyone else, to name just one issue.

My extremely white mother did the same thing. Diagnosed 9 years ago and never went to any of her followups.
