Neither tbh. 5k a month is less than I currently make after all of the deductions and I can't peace out and retire on that salary. 50k a month working 12 hours a day for at least 5 years doing what the OP said would just lead to me blowing my brains out within the first year so the money is useless

Option 1 Voters:
* Mostly aged 35 and above
* Single
* Holds a demanding job
* Current monthly income is below $5,000
* Resides in a low-cost area

Option 2 Voters:
* Mainly under 40 years old
* Married
* Has or wants children
* Lives in a high-cost area
* Ambitious and driven
* Envisions achieving significant financial freedom to support their family

looking at it this way I'm considering changing my answer to 2...but god, 12 hours a day means so much less time with my wife and daughter. Sure it'd be temporary but the kid's only 8 months old, I'd miss out on all the fun early development shit.

The money, no job.

what is that like the equivalent of a $90k salary?

my wife would work, and we would save $2000/month on daycare, and I would get to have a life outside work

After taxes I was taking home 4k and some change at my last job. Which was 12.25 hours a day. I wasn't living a lavish lifestyle by any means. I'll take the 50k provided it's normal work hours cause I was doing 72 hours a week to earn that.

Plus I get depresses if I feel I'm being ueseless

I want to know where everyone (presumably we're all 50 years or younger) are going to retire on $60k a year, knowing how volatile everything is re: inflation.
I live in California, so I'd retire here. $5,000 a month, untaxed, is roughly the same as having an $84,000 annual salary, before taxes. That's quite a bit of money. And I can throw what I don't spend into a savings account

The $50,000 a month is huge, but I wouldn't want to work a 60 hour week, every week. That's brutal.

Either option would result in me giving up my current lifestyle, but with Option 1, I could have a very comfortable life in Vietnam or another low cost of living country. I wouldn't really be able to come back to the US with a high standard of living, but it still might be worth it.

If you want to move to Vietnam you may want to look into the visa situation. If you dont have a legit job here, arent investing heavily into a business here and arent married to a local, you have to leave the country every 90 days and apply for a new visa.

In this scenario, would releasing games for free on itch.io count?

Because any free game can be paid for, but it's 100% optional if the person downloading would like to give money to the person who created it or just download it for free instead (like pay what you want, minimum of 0 dollars thing)

I just think a lot of people that chose Option 1 and currently get their employer fail to realize how expensive health insurance is, and will continue to be as they get older and have to go to more specialists.

So lets be conservative and say you food budget is $150 for the month.

You now have $650.

That's about $160 a week for savings and dicking around.

And then you blow a tire, and there goes a whole week-plus of dick around money.

And the following week you need a new pair of sneakers, cutting that $160 in half.

Etc. Etc.

I think per the rules of the topic you could pursue a passion project; its when you try to monetize the passion project that the money stops

so for me Id take the money, be a stay at home dad with the family on my wifes insurance, meanwhile work on a video game and once Im ready to sell the game we could switch to that being a source of income instead of the $5k

The only issue I have with the $5K a month to not work option is that I would want to continue streaming on Twitch, and while I'd be okay with not making money from that, the only way to ensure that would be to stop being an affiliate which also means I wouldn't have my emotes anymore, and I really like my emotes. Maybe if I could set it up so that the money was paid out to a charity or something, instead of to me.

Otherwise that $5k a month would be a great deal. A heck of a lot more than I'm currently making, to just be able to live my life on my terms.

Does the money adjust for inflation? And hpw strict is it? Like if I upload gameplay videos to youtube and I hit the threshold to make money but don't change my behavior at all does that count? Click button and make my 10$ a month passively. Does accepting a neighbors offer to mow their lawn one time for 20$ stop the money? What about if you inherit something that brings passive income without you doing anything? Does normal Ebay selling count like selling off some old trading cards you found in the attic or just doing so regularly or effectively as a job? I assume basic investing like buying and sitting on a fee stocks, 401K, buying a bit og gold and the like don't count but something like Day Trading would?

Regardless the no job money. Its more then I make now and I live fairly cheap

I feel like a lot of people underestimated how little buying power $5k a month is going to get you 5, 10, 20 years down the road.

Considering you would need about $8500 now to buy what you could have bought for $5000 in 2004.

With an average inflation rate of 3%, $5000 no will be worth about $3700 in buying power in 2034. $2800 in 2044.

but you have to work 12 hours a day. 5 days a week.

So you're basically working a 7-7 instead of a 9-5.

Everything else is the same as a "regular" full time job. Benefits, 401k, hour lunch break.

Lets go with 10 vacation days, 5 sick days, 2 floating holidays. 10 vacation days go to 15 if you decide to stay after year 5.

But do you think your living situation, whatever it may be, will be the same? As far as expenses.

I feel like a lot of people that are saying $5k have jobs that pay their insurance, may live with their parents still and pay a reduced/no rent, and have no kids. They either don't own a car, or it's paid off, etc.
