Knew this would be about celebrity/billionaire private jets.

It should be noted that this isn't just because she is a mega-celebrity that travels around to do concerts. That is understood and applies to many people/groups.

The big issue is, she is known to take many, many extremely frivolous trips, often short distances, all in her private jet, when these at least could be achieved by flying on commercial planes. Also, it's not clear form the video posted, but does she have TWO jets and the 1 will constantly meet the other at an airport to...switch off? Holy fucking shit.

There's a bill somewhere in Congress IIRC that will levy massive taxes on private jets and make them pay for their carbon footprint, as well as remove a loophole that allows them to be applied as business expenses.

To be clear, individual efforts to not recycle and curb waste and emissions should still occur. But it's correct that large corporations aren't regulated nearly enough for this.

I assume other people are using the planes too. Looks like one went to Mexico City and stayed there while the other kept bouncing around.

You are aware that 99% of celebrities fly commercial (albeit first or business class) all the time, right? I literally book A-list film stars flights as part of my job. None of them have private planes.

I'm not attacking her for it, however it's not just her who is attacked for this. I listen to a progressive pundit named Thom Hartmann who has talked about how people attack him for taking a private jet over the years to various countries for various obligations as being part of the problem and not actually caring about tackling climate change. Swift's career has her traveling far more than him, though he's much older and has a longer history of those flights, however the point is it's something people who vouch for doing nothing in regards to climate change typically attack those who do when applicable.

TC might be attacking Swift in particular, however it is a talking point other people use to try and tear down those who talk about tackling climate change, yet don't commit to taking a bicycle everywhere they go and having a 0 carbon footprint in their life.

Taylor Swift is such a large operation that she should also be viewed as a corporation.

And as a billionaire with her brands reach, she could absolutely have a hand in environmental policy making. Ive seen dudes sellout the entire planet for a 200k campaign donation.

Even ignoring this, I look at how much plastic my work site throws away every day, plastic that could easily be recycled and isn't contaminated, and it's probably more than my house uses in a year. Putting climate change on the individual instead of on corpos is the biggest scam the industry ever did.

The only rational path to dealing with climate change is serious policy at the international level. Of course that's a really difficult problem to deal with fairly, but that difficulty is not an excuse to do fuck-all, which is pretty much what's happening.

Not even. We're actively making the problem worse in response to the problem, when activists fly across the country doing talks that people drive from miles and miles around to listen to while nothing changes.
