I always wanted to get into fictional writing but never thought I was smart enough for it. I constantly psyched myself out. After seeing JKR's tweets, I now see intelligence was never a requirement.

The irony of an unrelenting TERF not wanting to be called by the name she was given at birth is not lost on me, but if Im not mistaken, the whole origin of people referring to her as Joanne came from the fact that she would constantly search her own name on Twitter in order to harass anyone who said anything negative about her. So it all just leads back to her being an insufferable egomaniac.

It's kinda funny how she named the most prominent black guy in the series "Shacklebolt".

There was also the time Lavender Brown was initially cast by a black girl in the early movies and as soon as she got more involved in the plot (in HBP) she was recast a white girl, but that's more on the casting dopes than Rowling.

Being that rich pretty much guarantees that you are separate from every other human being. Its that degree of separation that defines the terminally online.

Using her initials was also a way to hide her gender in the early days. She than used the Robert Galbraith name in order for people to take new series seriously as her real name is synonymous with young adult wizard books.

So she has never been able to accept herself and instead of addressing that internal pain she directs it out towards others who are making their best honest efforts to accept themselves. It's always projection, always.

It's not really even her initials. She doesn't have a middle name, so she just made the K up because it would make boys more likely to read her books or some shit like that.

I've always felt this was part of it. I really believe she's still going through some personal shit, likely as a result of the trauma she experienced earlier in life, but I'd really hate to go diagnosing on this as I'm not remotely an expert.

Being that rich allows you that complete separation but you have to remember that she still needs that affirmation. She needs people to tell her they love her and are inspired by her. That was dwindling in the wake of HP winding down, and her new books weren't getting her much of any groundswell.

And I'm not saying she started all this with the idea that she'd get more attention, it was probably more coincidental in that regard, but given the response to her laying all her cards down in June 2020, and everything we've seen afterwards, I believe this is what she's seeking. Any publicity being good publicity. Still being part of the discussion.

And it's the approval that she gets from those thousands of people online, not to mention the few dozen of the real problems who engage with her personally, that has allowed her to cartwheel downhill to this point.

I fear she's cursed to keep going like this until they day she dies, because it'll take some proper love in her real life for her to turn this around. Or a miracle of clarity.

To be fair with Seamus. The constant blowing up thing was a movie trait and not a book one. JK is still a garbage person though. No argument there.

Check out the official names for the magic schools outside Hogwarts. It's pretty cringe. The Japan one is literally Magic place (Mahoutokoro), but it sounds way worse and more unnatural than you think. Other language ones are also bad.

The women included several public figures as well as convicted sexual offenders. Clarissa-Jan Lim, a reporter for MSNBC, said Rowling grouping them together was "an apparent attempt to draw a connection between trans people and sexual perversion". Throughout the thread, Rowling sarcastically referred to all the people as female, but at the end clarified, "Obviously, the people mentioned in the above tweets aren't women at all, but men, every last one of them." Rowling said that, if her comments were illegal under the new law, she "looked forward to being arrested". Later, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said that Rowling's statements were "not assessed to be criminal and no further action will be taken." The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, defended Rowling, saying "people should not be criminalised for stating simple facts on biology".

The racist or other unfortunate implication stuff in the books was at a level that was pretty common in the 90s and 2000s, she probably just didn't notice she was putting it in. I doubt it was a conscious attempt at bigotry, as her transphobia shows she does not have the self-control to be subtle about her hatred.

I feel like it's a pointless exercise to revisit the HP books to prove they were bigoted the whole time. How about Rowling is just a transphobic shithead and we stop overthinking decades-old children's books?

While certain religious beliefs (and racism ofc) play roles in bigotry, transphobia is a major problem in the US as well, and is not something that is only limited to pockets of extremists.

From healthcare to work environments, schools and other services, transphobia is baked into society itself and found practically everywhere. Healthcare in particular can be a real nightmare to navigate with an inability to receive effective care much of the time, or varying degrees of substandard care that are far from adequate, costing time and money for little to no benefit. But most all places where you have to deal with some service or employee has these issues. Its a crap shoot or gamble, essentially, for how you will be treated. Its a major problem.

This is not merely limited to red or conservative areas, either, and transphobia has occurrence in blue states and cities as well.

Even services, places, or resources that are inclusive or otherwise explicitly cater to the LGBT+ community have issues with transphobia.

One of the fundamental aspects to this is the utter lack of education and staggering ignorance of cis people about anything that is related to us. Schools are mostly not allowed to teach these things to kids and we are treated as a taboo subject or inappropriate material for children to learn about. This is something most people never learn much about or only if they take the time to do it themselves, and self study about us and our history. Its disheartening and even people on these forums espouse these kind of harmful views and misconceptions.

I honestly don't know. Attitudes to trans people aren't as rigidly determined by where people are on the political spectrum as they seem to be in the US. There are lifelong far left people who are transphobic, and a Conservative MP who is trans and speaks up on trans issues (though they have done plenty of shitty things, typical of a Tory MP).

I would say a lot of it is ignorance, and not caring about things that don't affect you personally. Not many know anyone who is trans. Those that do tend to be more supportive.

TERFs originated in the 70s in the US but it didn't catch on in academia outside some isolated areas. In the UK it became mainstream in academia. If you want to see a remnant of TERF ideology in the US check out the Duluth model which states only men can engage in domestic abuse. This gender essentialism causes views like JK Rowling where they think trans women are malicious men trying to infiltrate women's spaces to abuse them. It's a ridiculous notion, but these people really believe it. I went to undergrad long enough ago to actually meet professors who believed this stuff. One professor described transwomen as Terminator units sent to infiltrate women's spaces.

TERFs or gender criticals are agents of the patriarchy. They dont actually view trans women as men because they dont go after men, and by reinforcing misogyny in society they help maintain the patriarchal power structures and promote sexist biological essentialism. Female spaces are to be policed, they demonstrably hurt cis women and trans women, and women are reduced to and defined by their reproductive organs by these people. Men are just a convenient excuse used to scaremonger but are not the real targets of their hate.

I gotta wonder at some point her "Mad trans people are alive" word count is going to exceed Harry Potter's word count (it's 1,084,170 for the record). It is literally the most important force in her life. People who smoke crack spend less time thinking about getting more crack than JK spends hating trans people. It's fucking wild.
