A Florida man, who aspired to become a police officer, admitted to sexually abusing his cousin during a police department job interview and now faces life in prison.
Stephen Bodley, 26, was convicted by an Orange County jury last week of sexual battery on a child, the office of State Attorney Andrew Bain said in a news release.
Bodley first mentioned "playing sexual games" in a sworn officer application with the Apopka Police Department. He again mentioned the crime during an interview.
"The certified voice stress analysis examiner performed a voice stress examination on Bodley," Bain said. "During the examination, the examiner asked Bodley to expand on concerning answers he provided in a pre-test questionnaire."
Bodley described sexually abusing a child years ago and admitted to it when he was asked to expand further. Detectives tracked down the victim's mother, who said Bodley and the victim had a close relationship, The Tampa Bay Times reported, citing an affidavit.
The victim, a female, told the Florida Department of Children and Families about the abuse, saying it took place over several years, from when Bodley was around 14 to when he was about 19, the newspaper reported.
Bodley's lawyer asked that his confession not be presented during trial, but a judge denied the request.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 24. The conviction carries a sentence of up to life in prison.

Dude. Right? That's what I was wondering

Also, this feels like there's a lot more to this story. Article says he started abusing the girl when he was 14. That seems like something he would have... Learned, so to speak

I'm still not 100% sure why it came up at all. But apparently when the victim was 9 or 10, he was 13 or 14 and had been watching a lot of porn. And it involved him making her give him oral on multiple occasions... "as a game"

He's been found guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 24, so we'll see how many years he gets for that.

Looks like he mentioned it in the application and the interview.

Maybe he couldn't take the guilt anymore and saw that as his opportunity to confess? idk

The only real way I can understand this, is if there's a question on there along the lines of "Do you have any experience with restraining/dealing with an uncooperative suspect?" for actual filtering of those with previous police experience, and he decided it was similiar enough.

*shudders uncomfortably*

Or "obey commands" related.

So whenever I see questions on an application asking "have you ever done something illegal" or something to that effect, I've always thought "who's dumb enough to answer those honestly?"

Here's my answer I guess. Ironically his honesty probably makes him overqualified for that position anyways.

I'm curious about two things. The article doesn't say how old the victim was. Just that Mr. Bodley as around 14 years old (a child) when it started. It makes me think the victim had to be in the single digits which is disgusting.

The other thing is what was on that application that made him think it was time to confess his sins and that he'd be immune to punishment once doing so? ike I don't know what's usually on a police application so the only thing I can think of is maybe it asked if he'd ever committed or been convicted of a crime in the past and he thought it was a safe space? Or maybe he just thought thought he was untouchable for some reason. I've met far too many people who thought they were because of their connections.

So to answer everyones question, is that police officers have to list down every crime they could have committed then during the lie detector test they ask about the application

now if you only committed misdemeanors they usually let it go, but any felonies and youre done

lying on a police application gets you black list from ever single police department in the country
